I finally got some material (a.k.a. Freetime) to get started on my Pink Floyd Xbox, which you may or may not have seen a post about around a month or two ago. Unfortunately, since searching is down

, I cannot find my original post, so this thread will serve as my worklog for all intents and purposes. So enjoy.
Note: You can find all the pictures for this worklog in my
Flickr.
I started out with an old case I had modded around a year and half ago, which actually was not dented up or anything, I was just looking for a change.

I have been a fan of Pink Floyd for quite a while, and would highly regard "The Wall" as one of the best albums of all time. For that reason, and that I use the Xbox almost solely for XBMC, I decided a while back that I would create an xbox in homage to my Hammer Overlords. I pulled up the Photoshop template I created oh so long ago, and got to work, and came with two designs that I liked most:

I sanded down the case, and gave it a layer of FLAT black (its amazing how easily flat black will cover any color btw). Once the coat had a bit of time to dry, I pulled out the old some
Pactra 1/16" Masking Tape that I got from the hobby store and got to laying down a brick pattern. This was just as tedeous as I was expecting it to be: I first layed down horizontal lines across the whole top, then I made vertical lines, forming a grid of squares, then 1-by-1 I cut every intersection to remove the parts of the grid to form the brick pattern. 2 hours later

, I had results:

I then layed some layers of FLAT white atop my bricking pattern. Once the white was semi-dry, I grabbed some tweezers and removed every little piece of masking tape from the box. An hour later

, I had results:

The pattern above was spot on, with a few touch-ups here and there. I wanted more of a grungy look to the box however, so I grabbed some low-grit sandpaper, a sink, and got to work again. Now it's looking more like what is in my mind:

So, that's it for now, I have to get the front face painted/masked/painted now, which will be a good weekday project. Once I've completed that (or before I complete that) I will be masking off the top of the xbox to get ready for a layer of (probably) red on the vents and the jewel circle. In the end, the whole case will probably be clear coated.
