Cool looking project m8

How about a Syd Barrett Jewel as a tribute to the late genius?

Thats looking great.

If he uses the screaming face i am pretty sure the original image for that artwork was a pic of Syd tripping out his nut, could be wrong though.

I put my xbox in a pc case a couple of weeks ago, and ive been mesing around trying to come up with a design and i came up with this a few days ago...
IPB Image

Ive not finalised my design yet, so a lot could still change.

Yeah that is one awesome mod, i read a fair bit of his worklog the other night and was quite simply amazed, he has inspired me a little but TBH most of the stuff he has done is way beyond my skills.

We need a decent Floyd theme for MC360 now.

Here is a pic of Syd, im pretty sure that is from the video Syd Barrets first trip. David Gilmour bought the rights to that film though and then did not release it to protect Syd so its fairly rare.

I just got this message from a member (whose name will be kept secret for no real reason):

QUOTE
i saw your paint job on the xbox. it was purple and dark gray, just wondering, what kind of paint did you use? and did you prepare the plastic like clean it? or are you a professional with your own painting booth?

In case anyone else plans to ask, the purple & dark grey box that I started the OP with was painted using Duplicolor brand spray paint (can be found at advance auto parts). The blue is Duplicolor Import 'Electron Blue' (the color of Civic SI's) and the dark grey is Duplicolor 'Gunmetal' (the color of guns tongue.gif).

As for the pink floyd remake, I am using some stuff I picked up at Lowes: American Tradition Ultra Enamel. I am not using the higher priced stuff that supposed to 'stick to plastic' because there is no need for this ultra-sticky behavior if you paint correctly.

Speaking of paint, I am off to spray some RED. I should be back tonight with updated pictures.

[2006.07.17]

So I got to work laying down a few coats of red today. Of course I had to severely tape up the xbox beforehand:

IPB Image

If anyone ever wonders a good way to hold the top of the xbox while painting or hang it while drying, here is my 'technique':

IPB Image

Once I gave it a little time to dry, I pulled off the tape and here is what I've got so far. I still need to work on the area around the jewel, which I am back and forth on whether I would like a black, white or red to surround a (for now) white jewel that lights up via LEDs...

The Money Shot:

I also test-printed my 'The Wall' Logo which I am vectoring in photoshop. Here is the results on regular paper unsure.gif, I will print this on decal paper and see how it turns out. If it doesn't turn out very good I may take it to a sign shop to get it printed professionally:

IPB Image

TO DO:

The Bottom Half, of course:

IPB Image

Get the 'scream' image together and in a shape worthy of printing. BTW, the 'scream' is actually Syd Barrett, as mentioned above. It is him 'melting' and has became a symbol of 'The Wall' as much as the wall itself.

pop.gif Trivia: Did you know that Pink Floyd's 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', part of the 'Wish You Were Here' album, was a tribute to Syd Barrett?
