My Xbox fell off my bed and worked fine right before i left for tahoe, when i got to tahoe i got error 9 and i have no idea where to start to fix it. >_<
I know that the ribon cable is fine and so is the hard drive, so it has to be something on the motherboard, i tried touching up the solder points for the ata conector, but still no luck.

If this helps anyone, it is modded with an X3 and has a 250gb hdd with no dvd drive (with the case that i modded, it wouldn't fit)

Please help >_<

xbox version 1.4

No, because i can get the hard drive to reconize on my computer and it worked once after the fall, + other hard drives won't work either, so it isn't the hard drive, i am 100% sure it is the mobo, i just don't know where to start looking to fix this, does anyone have any other things to try, or am i just sol and need to get a new mobo ? >_<

TAKEN FROM http://llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/8-9.htm

Error 8-9

Your Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive. Check cables, this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself. (my personal experience, try replacing the hard drive and see how it goes) My recommendation for most is to replace the Motherboard and Hard drive as a pair.

thanks happy.gif. i got a new mobo, i just have one very important quiestion.....
how do i unlock the 250 gb hard drive that i had in my other xbox?
I was smart and backed up all of my eeprom files to a memcard that i can read on my softmod xbox
i just have no idea really how to use those to unlock my hard drive, lol
and is the code that locks the hard drive the hdd key or the hdd password?

thanks everyone happy.gif

or would it be best to take the eeprom chip from the other mobo and stick it on this one?
the only problem with that is that with my current mobo (1.0 or 1.1) there are two chips next to each other that look like the eeprom and i can't tell which one to replace.

any advice would greatly be apriciated ^ _ ^

The safest way to unlock the drive would be to transfer the eeprom.bin file to the PC and make a CD with Xboxhdm.
