Help In Storin Acheivements, Acheivemnet tranfering from Xbox360 to Xbox Live Options

There was a time when my xbox 360 wasn't connecting to Xbox live. But I ignored it, thinking it was nothing. i just played my games and ranked up achievement points. After a month or so of not connecting to Xbox live i finally figured out my problem. See though, after i fixed my problem i tried signing onto Xbox live, but a notice came up telling me to re-update my account. This really sucks because if I do this then all the achievements that I gained offline would be deleted. NO WAY! 20 hours of Oblivion and the many other achivements i gained would be a waste. I called the Xbox helpline and all the woman told me was to play all the games over. I just hung up. So please tell me there is a way around this because i really have been extremely eager to play online, but i don't want to erase the nearly 1000 achivements I earned while I had connection problems.
