i'm guessing my sata chipset isnt compatible since i've been trying to get slax to work and it hasnt yet..if i do the crossover method, even tho its still using the same sata port to connect to the xbox will i beable to flash my drive? is it just slax-sata that are uncompatible but sata-xbox should be fine?

thanks

also one more thing...does it have to be a 1k resistor or will other resistors work also?

not sure other resistors will work, but resistors are like 1 cent a peice. just run and get one.

but make sure you use 1

I tried slax first and it didn't work, but crosswire did. So it should work for you. Also, you don't need a resister, if you amke sure you release the wires as soon as the lights come on.

thanks for the quick replies

i'm trying to do this tonite and the lowest resistor i have rite now is 3.3k..i would rather not risk it by not using a resistor and instead getting a brick

If your resistor is to high resistance, it just won't go in to modeB, no harm will be done.

i realized my problem was that the sata driver wasnt installed and my sata ports were disabled with a jumper on my mb...

now loading with slax this is what i get

Sil3112 Serial ATA: chipset revision 1
Sil3112 Serial ATA: 100% native mode on irq 11
ide2: MMIO-DMA , BIOS settings: hde:pio, hdf:pio
ide3: MMIO-DMA , BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:pio
hde: no response (status = 0xfe)
hdg: no response (status = 0xfe)
hde: no response (status = 0xfe), resetting drive
hde: no response (status = 0xfe)
hdg: no response (status = 0xfe), resetting drive
hdg: no response (status = 0xfe)

and then it just goes on with alot of other txt...does that mean the drive isnt compatible with slax?

A few months ago i tried to run a few linux versions and it usually stoped at the begining saying disabling IRQ 5. Only knoppel and suse 10 works on my Pc...i tried to launch the slax for the xbox and the same shit...it didnt work...i did it with crossover and it worked perfectly...just be carefull not to keep it for too long or u will burn your drive...
