oh i am biggrin.gif

dont speak so soon mate.

I just got done with the leds, put it all back together turned it on, the fans sped up to 100% and then it errors - overheating.

Its runs fine when the case is off, infact its on right now, purring away quite the thing.

Ive seen other people with this problem but ive never seen the answer.

so who wants to help me out here?

sooner this is figured out the sooner orangeman gets his xbox back smile.gif

Pinching a wire under the board somewhere? Since it only does it with the case off.

Yeah, I ment case on, derr. By case do you mean the lid? If it's only doing it with the lid on then it sounds like somethings getting pinched or shorted out on something it shouldn't.

redid all the wiring and put the top half back on, booted it up, it ran for a few minutes then it shutdown with overheating.

lack of x-clamp screws perhaps?

Oh yeah, you do have a bottom window on that thing don't ya? It could be that, I think they get a little "sprung" when you remove them, might not be holding on as tight as they did before. take them off and give them a little bend in the right directions, so when ya put them back on they'ere holding on tighter. You may have to fabricate something that will let you put the screws back in and still pull on the heatsinks a little bit, since putting them in the way it is right now would do about nothing for them.

hmm, well origionally i had cut the cage so that it had tabs for the screws but orangeman wanted them removed, i cant think what else it could be, especially since it only does it when the case is screwed on, it must be bending the case just that little bit so that its causing the overheating.

I guess i need to speak to orangeman laugh.gif

Ill see if i can get my hands on a cage from the bst

Seems like that's what it is. IMO it's a tarded design anyway, if the clamps hold te heatsinks down why the screws? If the screws hold them down why the clamps? It looks more like a perfect example of the right hand no knowing what the left one is doing.

Try putting some more "spring" back into the clamps reinstalling them, see if it still does it. Take them off and bend them up a little bit more, so they're harder to put back on, but should squeeze the heatsink a little more on the chips.

well im not gonna try that today anyway, im having a shit day, ive been told im not eligible for the 3rd year of my uni course, i think i got caught speeding earlier and now this, ill quit before i acctually break it laugh.gif

i should be able to get my hands on a replacement metal cage and get it cut in time anyway so that should do the trick, it has to be that.

i was worried this might happen, thanks RDC, your always a great help.

What i love about this mod is that it is nothing new or drasticaly innotive, but a very well excecuted, well thought out plan smile.gif

The orange scheme works really well, in my eyes, and the lighting looks great too smile.gif

Always great to see quality UK mods tongue.gif
