360 With Samsung, Spare Hitachi, Best plan for intended use? Options

I have a 360 with a Samsung drive and a spare hitachi drive that I just picked up. I have also preordered the Xecuter USB with (connectivity kit v2).

My intent is to be able to back up the games I own, (yeah, I know you've heard it before but, it's what I want).

So one drive in the 360 and one permanently in my PC. Given this scenario, would anyone recomend something other than Commodore4eva's Xtreme v3.2 for the Samsung and OPAXtreme V2.1 7in1 for the Hitachi?

With things changing so quickly, does one drive make more sense over another in the 360 or PC?

I am exactly in this same scenario now. I have a spare Hitachi drive that I want to use soley for making backups without having to crack open my case and have held off on deciding what firmware to flash the hitachi drive with to make it a 360dvd ripping drive.

I was hoping for a new release later this week that will finally force me to flash the spare drive.

Disclaimer: I haven't messed with image extraction from the Hitachi or Samsung 360 drives (I use a SH-D162C).

I believe you can use the Xecuter kit and your Hitachi with the latest Xtreme to have the drive permanently in ModeB for image/SS extraction.

If you plan on having the Samsung permanently in your PC, I suggest you not use Xtreme3.0. (You'd have to insert the enable0800 DVD every time to put it in 0800 mode. Instead, flash the drive with xtrm0800.bin from the Xtreme1.0 package.)

If it weren't for the issue that the Samsung sh-d162c (PC drive) can't yet read the SS.BIN, I'd say pick up one of those bad boys and flash it with the Kreon firmware. (Or trade one of your 360 drives for my SH-D162C )
