I know sicknasty is gonna be pissed i stole his tutorial, but he took too long and i was taking one to bits anyway. As usual i dont accept responsibility if you wreck your remote and blah de blah.

With that out the way here goes

Required tools

small flatheat screwdriver (jewelers/precision is perfect, but a real small one, or similar)
Your fingernails, or a thin blunt knife or similar

Lets get down to business

first off remove the screw at the bottom of the battery holder.

Ok there are 3 main clips holding this thing together, they are arrowed in the picture below. What you want to do is stick your screwdriver or whatever in between the two halves and try and pry the clips apart, one at a time, be gentle and try not to destroy the surrounding plastic.

Repeat for the other side.

IPB Image

Once done youl have something a bit like this, now DO NOT try and pull the rest of the case apart with this bit as the arrowed part below is quite fragile and could snap, now we dont want that
-

What you want to do is get your fingerails or knife in the recess and gently pull the clips that are holding apart until thy pop off, start where the arrow shows, slowly work your way up the remote until you reach the top. Do the same on the other side.

IPB Image

And that you pretty much done, once youve popped all the clips the back will lift off and all the parts just come out real easy. When you come to putting it back together it just pops back together no problem.

Good luck and happy modding.

Side question: Where/how do people get/make those different images that go on the Media Center button? Seen a couple of cool ones out there.

Nice tut but you should have mentioned that there is one little phillips screw that you need to remove prior to trying to undo those clips.....

Just because this has been bumped, I'd thought I'd comment:

For the millionth time, I'm going to do the Logitech Harmony 360 remote!

I disassembled it along time ago, but I'm just way to lazy to write a tutorial/try to replace the SMDs...I'll do it eventually though.. lol.

Nice tut, is this added to the list of tuts yet?

Sadly, I don't think there is some "easy" way of adding LED's... seems really hard cuz they might interfere with the buttons pushing, do you have a picture of the bottom side of the "buttons"?

Thanks

Yeah they are the same kind of smd leds that the controller uses. That it why i posted here, i found this thread when looking for how to open up the remote because i am going to change them all to blue, it does take 19 leds also which is A LOT

19 LEDs all coming from 2AA batteries. Probably works because the LED's arent on the entire time. I gots a question though. Is the text on the remote cover black? Or is it engraved in. If its black, then any painting would be pointless.

Hi. I've just taken my universal remote apart ready for painting and it was quite tricky. I began to get a little frustrated with it as I couldn't get those flippin clips to release so I just heated up the bottom of the remote a little with my girlfriends hair dryer and they popped straight out, did the same when it came to the upper parts, a bit of heat and it was apart in no time! Good tut wink.gif
