I've read through as many tutorials and sticky threads I could find on the following subjects and can't anything related so If I missed something, please feel free to point me in the right direction.

I just soft modded my XBox to the Evolution X Dashboard (3935) using the SID 4.0 installer. Everything has worked great so far.

However, after playing with it I've have some concerns:

1) Under the System Configuration menu EvoX has the options to Lock Hardisk and Unlock Hardisk. Also, the Settings/Info menu its gives you various information about your system. Under the Hardisk heading it has also has the system listed as Security: Lock Enabled by default.

I've noticed that no matter what, when ever I choose Unlock Hardisk and it gives me the Done confirmation screen, the Settings/Info screen always reads as Security: Lock Enabled (even after a reboot and a shut down, reboot).

Is that normal or do I need to edit the actual system file via FTP?

2) I've been able to set my XBox up on an FTP connection with no problems (using FlashFXP) and browse the directories with a cross over cable hooked to my PC. Via IRC I've also been able to obtain the emulators I need but I can't seem to figure out where to upload the emulators to! I've tried a couple different directions but they never appear under the Emulators menu in Evox.

3) When browsing the XBox via FTP I have directors C, D, E, F, G, X, Y, Z listed in FlashFXP. But in EvoX under the Settings/Info screen it does not list the D directory. Should this cause me alarm?

Thanks. Any info would be much appreciated! wink.gif

1) softmod + unlocked HDD = your xbox is fucked ( don't mess with it)

2) E:/Emulators folder (if you don't have 1 make 1)

3) D: is your DVD DRIVE

4) DO ALOT MORE READING, all this can be found in the Newbie Welcome Guide in Noob Forums.

Thanks a million chorixo. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer those. Just one question about this:

I should mention that in exploring the different setting in EvoX, I selected Unlock Harddisk several times. However, the System/Info screen still lists the drive as Security: Lock Enabled. Am I still fucked or does this have a prevention from not letting users access this option from in the EvoX Dashboard?

Thanks again!

When you turn on the xbox and it has the error screen with #7 or #6 , that's when you are gonna have problems. as mentioned DO NOT UNLOCK IT.

there are some helpful links in my sig too, that you might want to read.

I have not seen any error messages yet and as stated earlier, the System/Info screen always reads Security: Lock Enabled. My question is it even possible to unlock the drive from the menu in the EvoX Dashboard? I'll have no desire to do, I just want to make sure I haven't already FUBARd something.

If it IS possible, then any idea why the status never changes in the System/Info screen?

Thanks wink.gif

EDIT: Also, I should mention that in the top right hand corner of the EvoX Dashboard main menu it reads No Disc. Not sure if that is any indication of the Harddisk Lock problem.

UPDATE:

Actually, while waiting for your reply I've been reading through your very handy guide in your sig. I came across this step that has me pretty much freaked out right now:

QUOTE
3) DO NOT UNLOCK THE HDD--DO NOT UNLOCK THE HDD--DO NOT UNLOCK THE HDD

I've gotta say I really wish I had seen this early because I have selected the Unlock Harddisk option from the System Configuration menu of EvoX several times and I've always got the Done confirmation screen. I did this originaly because I was having problems copying files over via FTP and I thought this could have been a simple solution.

Is this a serious FUBAR mistake? My System/Info screen still (and always has read) Security: Lock Enabled and I have no problems running commercial games with the Eject Tray method of disabling the soft mod.

Exactly what Chorizo stated. Do not unlock your hard drive. If you do then its pretty much your gonna have to fix it with a modchip. Thats why "3.) DO NOT UNLOCK HARD DRIVE DO NOT UNLOCK HARD DRIVE DO NOT UNLOCK HARD DRIVE " Is there so noone fucks anything up. smile.gif

No disc simply means you do not have a game in your DVD drive, that has nothing to do with locking/unlocking you hard drive.

While you are learning,

Make sure you backed up your Eeprom then FTP your C and E drives to the PC. If anything does go wrong, you can recover with those files.

When you are in FTP, edit the evox.ini file. Where it says "Lock HD", put a # at the front of that line. It will not allow it to show up on the menu.

While you are at it, look for where it is looking for the emulators. Like Chorizo said, it is probably in the E:\emulators folder.

Save the file then reboot.

Before you start messing with other things you find in there, do some reading first.

There's a lot of useful info here on the forum so I'll definitely be setting up nights reading through all of it.

I've got a factory sealed XBox now because I had to return the other one (nothing soft mod related, I bought it used and had an issue with the tray not openings correctly).

Thanks biggrin.gif
