(Japan) Xbox 360 HD-DVD Nov 22nd, Below 200usd?
Posted by XanTium | September 19 15:46 EST

From kotaku.com/:
[QUOTE]
According to my friendly neighborhood Shibuya sources, Microsoft will announce tomorrow (late tonight for those of you in saner time zones) that the Xbox 360 HD DVD player attachment will ship to its wee Japanese fanbase just in time for the holidays. Priced at a very reasonable 19800 yen (~168usd/~133eur) (20790 yen (~178usd/~140eur) with tax), my source was eager to mention its 1080p capabilities and Windows XP Media Center Edition compatability. Woo.

As we all know, pricing in dollars to yen to euros to whatever is not created equal, so speculating other regional prices on current exchange rates doesn't always tell the full pricing strategy story.

No cause they need to lower their prices there for Japanese people to buy the 360.

Does anyone know if HD DVD players are going to be Region Locked?

If this holds true then right on Japan, the sad thing is we wont see this great price because America supports the 360 a bit more than Japan and we do not need to be woo'd! Good news none the less if true.

But yeah cool, give them a better deal MS, as more than most dislike your system and taste. Treat America like insolent dogs. Ha! While you are at it, give them a better price on the 360 system and a cool free game bundle. How bout' an autographed Bill Gates Gold Hentai poster. Sorry I am getting jeallous. We will never turn on you, as we have our pants down already, getting ass raped.

My bet would be 199 or 249 US in the US market. My guess would mean it costs less in Japan and it has been strategically discounted in this region.

Don't get too excited about the 1080p. As of right now, it wont come with HDMI, so 1080p is out of the question. It is, however, very cheap and delivers a great picture at 1080i. There will be a new version of the 360 that will have HDMI, and that one will have the capabilities for 1080p, but I don't think that's coming till next year.

I don't see why Microsoft doesn't just release an HDMI dongle much like the VGA one.

Unless of course the output from that little jack is analog only.

Anyone care to elaborate?

I dont know why so many of u think that without hdmi u cant get 1080p. U CAN! and just fine at that. What u dont get is hdcp and with hdmi 1.3 new audio standards. And they are not gonna ship a totally different 360 with hdmi and a hddvd included they will be alienating the early supporters and thats a big buisness NO NO

Think it has to do with lack of HDCP. Do believe I read that on these pages somewhere...

i wasnt gonna pick a HD format until sometime next summer but, if MS can deliver the xbox360 + Hd-dvd addon drive for 600$ i can see HD winning the format war. People will say for 100-150$ more then a standalone HD-DVD player i can get a video game console to entertain the kids and play some xbox live arcade games on. Also other people will say hell for 600$ i save 400$ that i woulda spent on a blue ray player and now i got a full video game console + hd-dvd player.

Someone, somewhere will come up with a region-free hack for the firmware. Just about every PC DVD-ROM or writer has one. The question is with shipping will it still be less than a U.S. version?

And, can you put up with "Miclosoft" on the front.

I guess this means that a dashboard update will be due to enable 1080p output. If MS really want to leave Sony high and dry, they'll sell these suckers for as little as possible. Once people have purchased a HD solution, they're less likely to even venture down other routes.
