Posted by XanTium | October 12 00:49 EST

A new 'chip' to fix bricked Xbox360 Hitachi-LG drives has been announced by the Chilliflash team:
Chillifix for Xbox 360:

* Recovers drive from a bad flash, caused by wrongly flashing. Xtreme, OPA firmwares which leaves drive in a dead state (master checksum fix).
* Safely patches all checksum routines to avoid future bricking.
* 12 Wires to solder only.
* 1 Optional wire for debug mode (For windows detection of drive).
* Works for all flashable Hitachi drives 32 to 59.
They also announced they'll release an Xbox 360 unlock kit (to easily open the 360 case), similar to the Xecuter and XCM Unlock kit:
A special designed opening tool kit to safely and quickly remove the Xbox 360 case, without causing any damage to the plastic outer shell. The kit is moulded from steel metal crafted to fit all the complex clips on the Xbox 360 case, allowing a fast unlock of the case.
Anti scratch coating material is used to give the product a quality look and feel.
The kit includes a T10 Screwdriver with handle for Xbox 360 inner screws.
The kit comes with protective packaging and an outer brown giftbox.

I bet this wont fix your drive if the key is lost... I imagine many people who have lost their drive key will be buying this just to notice that this fix wont work.

How do you restore it if windows doesn't reconize the drive anymore?

*Similar*? It looks identical to the Xecuter kit, right down to the box! But that's no bad thing, the Xecuter kit was a big help for me in cracking open the case...

This sounds like a great product to me. The only way I know of to bring back a bricked hitachi (that can't be detected in windows) is to desoulder the chip and repogram it. Not really a viable solution if you don't own a rework station and re-programmer since both those items together cost more than the drive is worth. This could be a much less expensive and less involved option for fixing those bricked hitachi's.

Looks good.

If the flash on the drive is corrupted/messed up and windows won't see i then there is no way to fix it with just software

Heh, if this does what it claims it already looks like the Chillifix will go down in history as one of the most popular 'mod' items, ever. tongue.gif
