Team MODFREAKz posted a great video-howto on youtube explaining how to remove the epoxy resin ('glue') Microsoft puts on chips inside Xbox360 DVD drives to prevent you from accessing ic-legs and solderpoints. The video will explain you how to remove it using a simple scalpel and an hotair-gun (that's not the same as a hairdryer, you'll need a temperature around 80-90C/176-194F). The technique has not yet been tested in those new DVD drives with 'black glue' (like the H-LG v0078fk), so it's unknown if it works as well with those. Yep, that's exactly how we did it in the old I-Opener SST flashrom days... my weapon of choice was a dental pick instead of a scalpel.

Make sure you don't get the board TOO hot, or your other components will come up along with the epoxy... actually a hair dryer might actually get hot enough for the desired effect, and would be safer for the board.

I work with theese materials and in particular the black goo that we know as stycast2850 cured with a catalyst and baked at 65c for 2 hours, this needs to be heated to higher than 80-90c and a nozzle for the heat gun is usefull to avoid damage to the surrounding bits, GOOD LUCK

Now I know where I've seen stycast! Aircraft cockpit navigation motherboards. They use it on the chips for some reason. Dont ask me why I know this

Why do i in vision lots more broken consoles with small components missing etc?

Word of caution to the people who have never tried hot air on electronics, it is very easy for the components blown off if the air out put and temprature is too high. I myself have a propper re work station with temprature and airflow settings and have knocked components off on other electronic devices (i was carless and wasnt paying attention). The xbox uses lead free solder and the joints are not as good, so please please be carefull.

The components are easy to put back on if you can solder and also if you are lucky to see where they go if they blow off, they are pretty small.

Try your heat gun (im pressuming its a paint stripper he is using) on and old pcb (old pci card or so) to assess how powerfull the airflow is. The video is good and shows that it is really simple to do (i have already done this) but it doesnt explain how easy it is to fuck things up.
