I just got a premium xbox system manufactured on 3/06. i was wondering what version of the hitachi drive was popular then.

also, what would be better chip install or flash:

Note) I do'nt have SATA, i am quite capable of soldering. i like the nme360 chip.

thanks.

There is no one popular drive model for a given production period.

only way to find out is to open it up and check the version of the drive. dont waste your $$ on a chip. flashing the firmware is free and easy. just do a lot of reading so you know wtf you are doing.

yeah but i dont like the idea of constantly opening the xbox to reflash when new firmware comes out etc, nor do i wanna cut up the case to run other cables etc.

I also dont have SATA on my PC, nor do I have that precious pioneer11d. I have an NEC 3550A. Which i've read mixed reviews on here. But according to what i've read the NME doesn't care about type of media or booksettings. So I can burn on whatever (+DL) as long as i back up with xboxx creator and use NME associator?

But AH I dunno. any opinions other than "$$".

thanks

well no matter what, you will have to open the box to flash the firmware once. after that, you can use the sh-d162c to backup games. I wouldnt waste my $$ on the chip, i would spend the $10-$15 on a pci-sata card from newegg.

most newer systems around that time seemed to be 59D or 47D
