Ok, well the hitachi drive was kaput, and this one was manu'd in july 06 so i went right to the 4.2 revision for the ms25 i just got in today, the problem im assuming is with the key...

i moved my orig.bin from the hitachi over and 360sam didnt even copy over the portion actually containing the key!

so i hex'ed it and first of all, where is usually blank characters in the 4000-6000 range is all 'tttt' except where the key is... and like 6 lines following it are blank with 3 scattered O's.. but i looked at the key.bin and it only has that one line so thats the key. but its at 4F00.. way past the 4000-4200 range! so i tried coping all but the 6000 line (which on the original contains a drive identifier saying hitachi-lg balh balh but i left it as is on the xtreme) and no matter what i get the 'to play this insert into an xbox 360 console' error still

anybody else done a swap and know what to copy from your hitachi firmware over to the sammys, and where?

I need to know this as well. I had a 360 with a Sammy die and want to put it in a box with another drive. I'm not sure if it'll be Hitachi or what yet though.

im told the 't's may have something to do with firmcrypting as well as the key being out of place, but that person isnt sure about firmcrypting just referred me to maximus' firmware toolbox, which i cant find in my 'usual places', someone said xbins but theres no way to dl it there just an nfo, so when i find it and play with the firmwares ill let you know if ive made progress

anybody whoes been there done that have any info for us?

Switching drive from hitach to samsung need more than just inserting the key. Check out http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=559861

For the key portion, did u install xtreme firmware mod. on the hitachi drive previously? If u do, u will have this key.bin file. Just inject it to your samsung drive.

First dump out the samsung drive firmware. Inject the key, this will be your original samsung firmware. Then do the xtreme firmware mod if you want to. You should get the E66 error and you have to fix it based on the link that I had provided above. If you don't get the error, then you don't have to do anything mentioned by the link above, just inject the key alone.

To inject in the correct place, look at samsung original firmware dump. Go to 0x40EC, you should see the key that comes with the drive. Copy and paste the 16bytes hex value of key.bin onto it. However, before doing this check 0x4116. Is it "FF" or the start of 16 bytes of different hex value? Cos if it is all "FF", then the key is at 0x40EC. Else the key could be at 0x4116 and you have to copy and paste accordingly.

Of course, before you do anything, make a backup copy of everything first.

on the hitachi's dump the key is at 4F00 WAYYYY past where it is on the toshiba's firmware.. is this normal?

i can't try again until tomorrow morning anyhow, ill let you al know i just used maximus' toolbox and all it did is move the one line over

dont use the make pfi's to do it either way, it doesnt work with the line the hitachi's key is on

What is the size of key.bin? It should be 16bytes. Anything longer it is not correct...

key.bin is 16 bytes.

i used maximus toolbox to swap keys from one to the other, checked it with hex editor it moved only the key at 4F00 to 4F00 on the x42ablahblah.bin and flashed that, doesn't work. keep getting the white screen 'to play this please insert into an xbox 360'

cut and paste the key.bin over 0x40EC - 0x40FB of xtreme firmware ...
