Kotaku: Xbox 360 HD-DVD Impressions
Posted by XanTium | November 11 14:22 EST

From kotaku.com:
[QUOTE]
While I think the need for two separate pieces of hardware is unnecessarily unwieldy, Microsoft developed the interface in a way that allows you to access all of your neat 360 features while watching a movie. So you can still chat and get messages and alerts while watching a movie.

Unfortunately, there are also some missteps. For instance, the included remote control works fine, but I couldn't get the eject button to work. When I pushed it the 360's tray popped open instead of the HD-DVD player's. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying. Another annoying thing is that neither the remote nor the 360 controller seem to let you access certain features, like zooming or pan.

It's also a little annoying that the HD-DVD doesn't seem to have a separate power button. Instead you just need to let it stay on whenever your console is on. Not only does this draw more power, it adds to the noise and heat of the console. This is completely unscientific, but I think that HD-DVD player, when it's playing a movie, is actually louder than the Xbox 360. Fortunately, while the HD-DVD player gets warm, it's no where as big a heat producer as the Xbox 360.

Why the hell do remotes have eject buttons, anyway? This was the most retarded feature ever invented and I have no idea how it caught on so universally. If you're ejecting the tray, you need to be next to the damn thing anyway, so what the hell is the point of having the "convenience" of being able to do it from across the room? blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

So its louder than the 360? Damn, they really need to work on that. I hear the ps3 is very quiet (according to Kotaku).

This has to be the lamest idea in a long time. Who is really going to buy this clunky add-on... It's huge, loud, stays on all the time...

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone with hacked firmware has used this HD DVD drive yet? I've heard that more updates were needed for it, and was just curious as to who has done it sucessfully.

Maybe the reviewer got a bad drive or something because I have no problems with noise at all, it is very quite and I can't hear it over my whisper fan in my 360.

Also the review starts off with many negatives and does not hit on the greatest positive, the player plays back all content I can throw at it and plays it back with excellent image quality.

If someone like me has a HDTV with no vga or dvi than this is an excellent option.

HUH ?? that part doesn't even make sense
I assume you made a mistake with that section ?

If it 1080i over component.. why would you show 1080p results within it ?
