A driver is released to allow the use of the Xbox360's HD-DVDROM on your pc!
The same day the XBOX360 HD-DVDROM Addon was released to the public in USA, we at blueprint figured out how to use it in windows, now as of this moment, officially, the movie that came with the hardware "King Kong" is currently a Dual Layer (30GB) disc so it would appear the studios are aiming for that size minimally for the majority of movies to start off with at least, this of course mean's you will not be directly copying any hd-dvd's as of yet. However, the most important thing is were now able to read the UDF (Universal Disc Filesystem) v2.5 which is currently used by the Toshiba Corp with there first generation HD-DVDRom drives. You can see the entire contents of the HD-DVD Media when in the drive.

Again, these are litterally Toshiba Corp drivers for the file system used with HD-DVD. We did not create these drivers ourselves, so we cannot modify them, however there availability is limited to specific machines which were familiar with from our places of business, and we will continue to get the latest updates of these drivers and make them available to you as they're released to us.

this is fantastic news!

'hope it plays movies via windows media player.

i have my PC hoolked up to my 1080P tv via DVI to HDMI and if it plays movies it would be great!!

my tv does not suport 1080P trough VGA only 720P

This is great news! I was able to use these drivers and read King Kong on my Laptop... only bad thing is that my laptop is USB 1. I Have a fast Athlon 64 desktop, but the drivers won't work in Windows x64, so I'm forced to use it on my laptop in slow speed at the moment. Anyone know a way to get it working in x64?
I bet reading the filesystem is XP is gonna open up a whole new world of possibilities

I hooked mine up V for Vendetta is 21.2 Gigs.

So does anyone know if there is some HD DVD player software out there for the PC? WinDVD and PowerDVD have the capability, but only versions that come bundled with HD DVD drives, and I'm not buying another one of those!

Nope. Not that I know of.

On a different note, has anyone had trouble with their copy of King Kong? Mine drops frames like f*cking crazy!

It's extremely likely that this will only allow viewing of the file structure. MSFT included no sort of decoder on the drive's hardware (your computer doesn't have one either) and Major Nelson commented that it took 4.7 million lines of code to get the drive to play.

This makes it extremely doubtful that you will be able to play HD DVD movies from this drive.

Nope, no playback support in WMP. Just the file structure. But, I wasn't expecting it to. HD DVD playback in WMP will probably be one of the hooks that MS uses to try to get people to buy Vista.

But it would be my guess that if a commercial program wouldn't work, some homebrew stuff would likely pop up to fill the gap.
