Rumour: Microsoft wants Capcom?
Posted by XanTium | November 11 21:07 EST

From xboxway.com (rumor warning!):
[QUOTE]
In the last EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) issue a rumour was reported about Microsoft intention of acquiring Capcom in order to make the famous Asiatic software-house a first-party developer.

Obviously, this is something like a sci-fi rumour! Capcom is one of the greatest Japanese software-houses and during its 27 years of activity it has never been a first-party developer.

Capcom acquisition would certainly help Microsoft with Xbox 360 sales in Japan as it will imply the exclusive on several games such as Devil May Cry (which has always been a Sony PS exclusive) and Resident Evil series.

That would be cool I always wanted to play devil may cry. This would make the xbox360 that much better.

I am not so sure this would be a good thing. If M$ takes over the console world, who would they have to compete with?

True. I don't want to see Capcom acquired by anyone.

You know, there is a high possibility that MS might do it. After success of Dead Rising and high interest in Lost Planet (over like 3 million people downloaded the demo), there are definitely thoughts of buying it out. Same thing happened with Bungie. Halo came out with huge success, MS decided to buy it out. Its either all Capcom titles go to both platforms or all to Xbox 360.

Capcom just needs to deliver something that gains as much attention as Devil May Cry for the Xbox 360. Could this game be Lost Planet? Who knows...

I really don't see it happening. Capcom has really opened it's arms this generation to the Xbox 360, and Dead Rising was a hit. However, I think they'd like to stay alone....

But if it did happen, it would be more than amazing. Devil May Cry 4 on the Xbox 360 anyone? biggrin.gif

This is a great thing BUT would this limit the capcom creativity we all know and love. I mean really I could see 10 milion xbox live ports but how many new IPs would we really see.

You see how little they have done with rare so far.
Kameo Perfect dark grabbed by the ghoulies all less than stellar games.
Viva pinata is a kids game from what I know.
But anyways I would hope this would bring us stuff like okami and not devil may cry 10

Why would they try to get Capcom when they got the dough to buy out Square-Enix which is an even bigger company and they only way they can put a dent in the Japanese Market share is with them.

MS purchased Bungie in 2000, the Xbox (and Halo) weren't released until late 2001...

MS didn't purchase Bungie after the success of Halo they purchased Bungie long before halo was even released.

A better example would have been Lionhead which Ms purchased after the success of Fable.

Either way, this would be the smartest thing MS$ would ever do. They would draw the japanese in like fish to worms... If microsoft is smart,..they would do it. I hope this pans out as I will NEVER buy a Sony product again after the crapp they pulled with Lik-Sang. I really love Onimusha, Devil May Cry and Resident evils...
