Forgive my noobishness, but does this mean you can run any Linux distro you want on the PS3, not just Yellow Dog?

It sounds like you can run any distro as long as they have the PS3 'patches' applied.

yes, any distro compatible with powerpc

like:
Ubuntu
Fedora Core
SUSE/openSUSE
Gentoo

wow, that is great.

When you install an alternative OS on the PS3 does it overide the stock GUI, i.e. upon bootup will the PS3 go in to the alternate OS? Or do you go in to the XMB interface and then launch the OS?

I'll have to find out what distros are PowerPC compatible---I'm going to try out Suse for my PC, but that probably won't work for the PS3.
