Help With Load Screen Options

my wife had a modded xbox, and while I was deployed to iraq it started messing up. Coming back, I did a little check of the xbox, and this is what happens. Boot the xbox up, the splash screen comes up, and after that loads, where the microsoft shows up under the Xbox logo, the background for that screen is white. After that screen it boots up to the original ms dash, and its got all the original work for it, just the settings, music, etc.... All I am asking what is the possible problem with it, and how can I fix it. What I am going to do do, but haven't done yet, is make a slayers boot disc, and see if that still works.
