Texter Enables In-game Messaging from Controller
Posted by XanTium | November 15 23:30 EST
From teamxbox.com: [QUOTE] Blue Orb, a company dedicated to the development of advanced input systems, announced today the Blue Orb's Texter, a device that plugs in between the Xbox 360 and the controller to enable in-game messaging without the need of a full QWERTY keyboard or the on-screen keyboard provided by the Xbox 360 dashboard.
You need to apply two rings that come with the Texter, each one fit right around the thumbsticks. One have eight colored zones, the other has eight zones, each one holding four letters from the alphabet. To type a letter, you select with the left thumbstick the color of the zone that has that letter and then with the right thumbstick you select the area.

Gee whiz, can't they think of any other ways to make it MORE complicated? My IQ isn't high enough to use that! I could write a letter and mail it to someone faster than I could type something with that. Glad I have my USB keyboard.

That article has it wrong. There are FIVE color zones on the left stick and FIVE letters per zone on the right stick. I'm sure it'd be handy if you had lots of practice, but I just don't like the tediousness (is that a word?) of the whole idea. Where is that mini plugin qwerty attachment that MS showed us over a year ago?!

How is this new? Its exactly the same as the web browser only a year later. Has everyoe forgotten the browser?
Exact same thing except the browser used the letter buttons as the second stick. It worked well. once you got it down you could type at an almost reasonable rate.

I can input characters faster on the very small QWERTY thumb keyboard of my PDA. Sorry, but in my opinion, nothing can replace a good o' classic keyboard (perhaps with a PS/2->USB adapter so it can also be used with the Xbox/Xbox 360).
