Xbox Owners Ready to Upgrade
Posted by XanTium | November 17 16:04 EST

From xbox360.ign.com:
[QUOTE]
The next-generation console wars are on and market research group eMarketer has some insight into how things might shake out. A brand loyalty poll among current-gen console owners showed that 60 percent of PlayStation 2 owners plan to buy a PlayStation 3, while only 46 and 45 percent of Xbox and GameCube owners, respectively, plan on buying the updates to their current systems.

A second poll reveals that while Sony may enjoy the most brand loyalty, PS2 owners aren't necessarily the most likely to buy a next-gen console in the next year.
It's possible the reason Xbox and GameCube owners are looking to upgrade more quickly is because their systems have been, for all intents and purposes, "dead" for a while now. In the meantime, the PS2 is still going strong, with several AAA titles ready to carry it through this holiday season.

All that is bullcrap. The only reason ps2 owners aren't gonna upgrade is because there will be allot of them that can't aford a ps3. £500 or whatever price it is is allot of money compared to £270 and £180 for 360 and wii.

i still have my original 1.0 Xbox, softmodded. and i mostly use it to play mp3's off the harddrive, or to enjoy some custom (fairly) high res Futurama rips.

why would I upgrade?

...until Halo 3 of course. damnit.

Why don't Americans have the same national pride in thier products as the Japanese do?

The truth is that from a Gaming standpoint the only real difference between the 360 and PS3 is HDMI and exclusive titles.

I would think more of these things are being hooked up to component video than HDMI and probably even more are bening hooked up to composit so 1080P shouldn't be a deciding factor for many.

I think many are just Brainwashed that Japanese means better Quality Electronics (Hi-Tech).

Truth is Games will look the same on 99% of HDTV capable sets even when ported from native PS3 to 360.

In the long run the development enviorment of the 360 may be its most valuable asset.

If good looking/playing games can be coded faster and with less difficulty on the 360 that would keep Dev Cost Lower and Increase Profit Margins. Putting yourself in the Developers shoes who would you prefer to code for all other things equal?

The results these market research groups show are about as reliable as a politician or a movie critic. That is to say, not very. biggrin.gif

Wow you are forgetting xbox live. Its the best thing that ever happened to the xbox and the ps3 will always be 2 steps behind in online gaming.

The wii will be popular on price alone. Sony are taking the mickey with the PS3 price. MS must be laughing, it saves them having to drop a chunk off the 360 price as it already comes in well under the PS3 here in the UK. I threw away my Dreamcast a couple of months ago and all the games, seemed a good idea at the time but now I regret it.

Why would you throw it away? Unless by throw away, you mean sold it... unsure.gif

I lined up for and bought the Sony Playstation 3 with a couple friends, we all have and play our PS2's as well as our Xbox's (Mainly Halo 2...) But we are selling the PS3s because there really aren't any strong titles right now, I'll let it ripen up a little and maybe snag one in the Spring time next year.

By then I'll be able to see how everything pans out pop.gif

Yeah all those great AAA titles for PS2 this holiday season....Which would be what? Maybe God of War 2?? Oh wait 2007.... Who does these poles, or should I say who are the tools who do the poles? I own a PS2, Xbox and 360. IMO Xbox, PS2 and GC have gone the way of the Dreamcast and the Dodo....

Stupid study...brand loyalty doesn't mean crap when you either can't afford or can't even find a PS3 to buy. MS and Nintendo are the real winners this time around. Sad because I always loved Sony products, not their gaming consoles, but other electronic devices...they are in a world of hurt financially...But, I will say that I will buy whatever next-gen console that will first allow homebrew content...hack away...

Meh its a mixed bag for all and the truth is its really no telling who will upgrade and who won't. I have the pleasure of owning a xbox, ps2, and Dreamcast (sega sports one) and honestly i could care less who made what. I'm not "loyal" by any means...why should i have to miss out on great games just because there on a ps2? I am a gamer period, whoever makes enough games i want to play gets my vote FIRST but eventually i will have all systems.

Currently im really tired of Halo and most FPS so the 360 is the last on my mind BUT because of my live friends i just may get one first. More of my friends have 360s then (or will have) ps3s. So simply put, 360 for FPSs and XBL community and PS3 for awesome RPGs (fav genre) and action series.

So yeah i guess im looking to upgrade...partly cause Microshaft f-ed me and everyone who owns a xbox a year ago.

Speaking of, i like Sony's approach to that subject. Support the ps2 even when the ps3 comes out so at least your still playing a Sony product by the time you want in the next-gen so your more likely to go with Sony. Microsoft really turned me off with their "fuck current gen attitude" and if it wasn't for the success of XBL i wouldn't buy 360 at all. Cause when xbox 720 comes out my 360 will be forgotten so what's the point?

I'll shut up now.../rant
