I was thinkin about adding a fan somewhere on the machine in one of two places -

a.) Replace Heatsink on Processor with a HeatSink/Fan combo.

b.) Install fan under harddrive.

I'm not too worried about the harddrive because I don't use it to store any games, unless you count FBAx (gotta have Aliens vs Predator laugh.gif - course, that's only 10 megs.) I'm also running a v1.0 with fan on gfx proc and massive heatsink on intel proc. Right now, i'm running at around 139F, or 59C. I'm aware this is a prefectly suitable temp but it won't hold up forever...

So anyone got any suggestions? I'm adept at electronics and can hook up the fan with no problems. I'm just looking for ideas right now. Thanks!

edit - stupid auto format smilies...haha

Well i put a fan under my HDD, dont know if i really needed it or not but then better safe than sorry, and im also thinking about putting a fan ontop of my CPU heatsink too, just not gotten around to it yet.

But theres no real point putting a fan under your HDD if its pretty cool and you dont really use it for intensive gaming.

heh...

yeah, i actually used a much simpler solution....

I jacked up the rear 12v fan to its full 12v potential instead of the lousy 7v it uses regularly. Sucks air out at a great speed, while producing a little more noise....who cares...it's keeping it cool!

WOOHOO!!

Yes!!! the best solution!!!
I did exactly the same thing... brought my xbox inside temperature down from CPU 140 F / MB 125 F (temp after 1 hr) to CPU 118 F / MB 102 F . You definitely dont need any xtra fan. just connect the stock fan to 12 volts..its that simple... oh well thats the plus and the minus is... its loud!!! laugh.gif you'll get use to it trust me

LOL, dont think id care much for the extra noise, id much sooner tack on another fan to the cpu somehow, or does anyone know a heatsink that comes with a fan and thats compatable with the xbox?

The little HDD fan i added has added 0 noise to my xbox, hehe, i ripped this fan out of an old HP tape cartridge drive laugh.gif

EDIT: Woohoo, this is my 100th post! beerchug.gif

CompUSA isnt really much good to me as i live in england tongue.gif i might just bodge together my own little mod, i got a nice little cpu fan sitting around brand new, cant hurt but try. Though id sooner find one that'd fit first before screwing around with my own thing.

If you can get your hands on a dead Dreamcast, snag the heatsink and fan from the Hitatchi CPU and put that on the MCPX chip (or find one roughly the same size as the MCPX chip) with thermal epoxy.

I took a supper quiet 80mm fan that runs @ 37 cfm and cut it out of the housing and attached it to the xbox case using cable ties. after making just a few snips It fits beerchug.gif now my temp on my mobo stays <100 and my cpu @ about 110. and the plus side is its a lot more quiet then before biggrin.gif then again my house stays @ a constant temp of 65 because my girl friend is an eskimo LOL

LOL, ok i feel dumb, i was measuring up in my XBOX like 20 mins ago for when i put a CPU fan on, and i noticed i only hooked up my 12v HDD fan to the Red and not the yellow 12v wire tongue.gif needless to say i fixed this right away, not that it helped in any overall system cooling, but its given me peace of mind now that my HDD is getting some good airflow over it.

Anyways ive had an idea shadowjin, you upped your standard fan to 12v right? Im planning on doing that now, did you just get a Y power splitter and tap that? As thats what ive done for my HDD fan. Also, have you cut away the metal "grill" behind the standard fan? Because i was looking at that, and i though if we cut that "grill" away it would restrict airflow even less.

Also what temps are you now running at?

EDIT: Fixed a typo blink.gif oh and incase anyone was wondering, i have the fan under my HDD blowing onto the HDD.

EDIT: Hell, i might even look for another 60mm fan with high end CFM to totally replace the XBOX case fan so long as its not too loud. Preferably something less than 35dB(A) but with an output of 30CFM+, heh, im prolly dreaming, but im gonna keep searching.

Standard 70mm, i thought the standard fan was 60mm blink.gif heh damnit i cant be bothered to take my XBOX to bits again just to measure, my 2 switches popping out of the vents on the left side makes it abit of a pain to keep removing the case and putting it back on. Does anyone know for sure, is it 60mm for 70mm?
