Bach on Sony: 'They're Spread Really Thin'
Posted by XanTium | 27-11-2006 13:00 EST

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
Talking to the San Jose Mercury News, Bach was asked about the new Microsoft portable music player Zune, and why it had avoided any significant games support. Bach claimed that there was a purposeful attempt not to create a new games machine and to focus attentions on the Xbox 360.

"I need the people who are focused on gaming to focus on Xbox 360 ... you have to distract a whole group of people that are doing content and the Live service and a whole bunch of other things to do that", he said. "I think Sony, frankly, suffers a little bit from this problem, which is they're spread really thin across all these areas. And trying to do PSP, competing with Nintendo, PSP to DS; competing with us, 360 to PS3, I think it does strain -- it would naturally strain any organization."

When questioned as to how Microsoft would gain a theoretical 40 percent market share in North America, compared to 30 percent each for Nintendo and Sony, Bach replied, "There are a couple of things you have to look at. You do have to look at the content. Where's the best content? Is it cross-platform? Where was it first developed? I think that does matter in the marketplace. The second thing you have to look at is economics. You have to ask the question, over the life cycle, who has the cost advantage? Who can price most effectively? Who can reach the price points quicker? That has a huge impact on what gets driven."

yea....thats great and everything but it doesn't matter how good ur product is if you dont market it accordingly. The 360 is a way better than the ps3 but they need let everyone know.

good marketing does make all the differences.

Even if your product is the perfect match for what someone is looking for, they'll never know that it's the perfect match unless you're able to let them know what they need to know.

How many movies would love if you saw them but you just don't know about, how many have you heard about but didn't see it because you didn't know the right things about it?

How many bands would you love if you heard their music but you've never heard of them, how many have you heard of but didn't think about it because you weren't told the right things?

How many movies/bands have you seen or heard because they were marketed towards your tastes even though they really weren't?

Marketing is everything, they can make or break a product, it can sell a product that shouldn't be sold, and it can lose sales that should have been made.

What if there was only 3 movies & only 3 bands and they were all sold in the same store next to each other?
