I bought a 360 for my son on monday for christmas and it has a samsung drive, havnt taken it apart yet so no idea what model.

Am I better going on live and getting the update before I flash the drive or after?

Does it not make any difference at all?

Should I stay away from the update all together?

don't think it matters as long as its the latest firmware. but to be on the safe side do the update before.

Make sure you use the Xtreme 4.2 rev 1 package and not the Xtreme 4.2 package to eliminate any chance of getting an e66 error

I'm assuming you mean Xtreme42_Update, cant see a mention of Rev 1 in the usual place.
