Microsoft on Wireless Headset Issues
Posted by XanTium | December 12 01:43 EST
From Major Nelson's Blog (Larry Hryb, Microsoft's Xbox Live Director of Programming):
I spoke to the accessories team regarding the feedback from some members who have experienced issues while using the Xbox 360 Wireless Headset(buy now - US$49.90), including difficulty syncing the headset to the controller, reception interference and audio sensitivity. The team wanted to let you know they are committed to providing the highest quality accessories for Xbox 360 and they would like to assist in troubleshooting and resolving those issues, whether by replacing or repairing the units under warranty. If you are experiencing any of these issues with the Wireless Headset please call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX.
I talked to him personally today about this while at the XNA open house, me and a listener from my show. I'm glad to see that they finally admitted it and that they are now doing something about it

They'll fix it under warranty only? But it's a fault in their design(I guess the "launch" controllers?) so shouldn't it be a recall instead? As in the equipment sold to consumers does not perform completely as advertised.
I sure hope they'll replace it even if your warranty is up, or else they won't be owning up to their mistakes.

it's not a bug with the launch controllers.
it happens to any control out there. the wireless headset signal is just to random. from completely smooth (nice clean sync with no interference issues) to way over power (knocks controls out of sync and causes feedback through your mic)

But people have been replacing/exchanging their headsets already, some even multiple times, and no joy...
What makes them think MS will replace them with something that's now working, if 2 or 3 previous sets did not resolve the issue?
Well, unless MS has brewed up a batch of "revised" headsets that they will be sending out to those with problems? Maybe fixed a thing or two??? Tweaked them somehow???
