First Post.
I've been using my xbox to watch avi movies using ccxgui and xbmsp for months with no problem, when all of the sudden it stopped working. Since then, I've searched the boards and tutorials for help but I always get no link. It's important to note that I've been using a laptop and a STRAIGHT CABLE with NO ROUTER for the past months and it has worked for me. I just plugged in the straight cable from my network card in my PC to the network card in my xbox. The crossover cable has never worked, but I've had sucess with the straight cable until now. I've used all the FTP faqs and such but it always says "No Link!" on my EVOX dashboard settings. Before it would say I was connected. Specs: Evox and XBMC IP on computer LAN: 102.168.0.4 IP on XBox: 102.168.0.3 Wireless card: Disabled firewall: off I've come to the conclusion that my network card in my xbox must have stopped working, because I can't think of any other explanation. In the past the IP that worked was 102.168.1.102 on both my xbox and my PC, but following the FAQs I've changed it to the current ones. I think I've covered all the specifications. PLEASE help me, I miss watching movies on my television instead of my small computer screen! P.S. Do my settings in XBMC networking have any connection to the settings in the Evox dashboard? I believe I have the XBMC set to Automatic (DHCP), but have tried setting that to static as well. emcee |

You have to use a crossover cable. Are you trying to ftp or stream movies and such from your laptop
Also have you ever though about updating xbmc to 2.0.1. what have you got now? |

Ok, I've tried using the crossover and that didn't work either. I'm trying to stream videos to my xbox, but I tried FTPing and that didn't work either. I am running XBMC 1.01, but if I can't FTP I don't know how I could update it. Please help.

Here are some things to try.
When you have connected the ethernet cable to both the laptop and the Xbox, does the little lights on the ethernet jack of the Xbox come on? Try the other cable. If the lights come on, you should be connected. If they haven't come on with either cable, it may be a faulty cable. That is more likely than a faulty ethernet phi. However, I have suscessfully replaced a ethernet phi on a Xbox, so you could give that a try if you have a scrap Xbox to steat the phi form. If the lights did come on, try pinging the Xbox from the Laptop (click the "start" button in windows. Select "Run". Type "cmd" and hit enter. Then in the DOS window, type "ping 102.168.0.3"). If the pings are successfull, you definatly have a connection. That means that there is something wrong with your setup somehow. If the pings don't go through sucessfuly, you probably have a hardware issue. Agian, more likely the cables than the Xbox. |

Thanks for the advice Andronicus. I tried three different cables (two straight and one crossover) and none of them worked. The light on both network cards never lit up. Also, when I tried to ping the connection, it said I'm not connected. If it is my network card, could I buy a card from a PC store and install it in my xbox? Is there anyway to make sure it is my network card before I take apart my xbox and try to install another card? Is there ANYTHING else I can try? I would rather not shell out the money for a new network card, but streaming movies to my xbox is a must. Please help.

Only the X-over cable should work, so I am not surprised the lights didnt come on with the regular cables do you have another x-over cable you could try, or could u try your current cable connecting you laptop to another PC? If that works then you know its the Xbox if not then it is either the cable (try another x-over cable) or your laptop.

Network cards dont usually fry often, try buying(or making) a new crossover cable, pc-xbox=crossover pc-router-xbox=straight-through
