(Japan) Blue Dragon Effect ... 360 Sells 35k Units in 1 Week
Posted by XanTium | December 15 00:14 EST

The new M-Create numbers are in for the week of December 4th - 10th. The Xbox360 reached a new record in the land of the rising sun, moving a 'wh0pping' (at least for Microsoft) 35343 units! If I didn't make any errors this brings the total amount of 360s sold since launch to ~213k (vs. already ~238k PS3s) in Japan.
Blue Dragon itself ended on the 4th place in the Japanese software ranking with 80348 copies of the game (released on dec 7th) sold in 4 days.
While selling over 35k units in 1 weeks is a real nice performance for the 360 over there (Microsoft usually sells only a few 1000s a week), it's still a pale figure compared to Wii's 85439 units and PS3's 50171 units ... both probably limited by available stock.
Anyway it'll be the first time the 360 outsells the PS2 (with "only" 30460 units sold) in Japan.

Well you have to start somewhere, at least now they know that TGS 06 wasnt a grand waste of time and that more targeted content will get the sales going.

Good Job. biggrin.gif

Seems like the targeted 200 000 extra consoles sold for BD won't happen. Too bad, x360 needs more jap dev support to get a larger user base.

They need to be developing more titles like that for the Japanese Market. But never the less its a good start.

Microsoft now needs to get the checkbook out and get square on board if Microsoft could get a Dragon Quest game only on xbox 360 it WOULD SELL HUGE AMOUNTS

also i think they should be looking at xbox live arcade a bit better from a japan point of view

Microsoft can do it they have dropped the price of the system to make it fairly cheap all they need now is wicked content

A Dragon quest game would only happen if x360 won the japanese market, and that won't happen period.

Dragon quest only goes to the market winner. Just look at the late releases of dq 7 and 8 for ps1 ps2 and now DQ 9 for the DS.

Maybe they should start getting some anime games first.

well they sold 10K in pre-orders of the LE bundle plus another 90K in pre-orders of the non LE bundle... plus 35K in the first week of sales

that's 135K so far... I'd say they're well on track to have the game reach 200K just because it didn't do it in the first week doesn't mean it wont ever. I believe it's already sold more then Ridge Racer has in Japan over it's entire 1 year lifespan...

200K was a goal for the life of the product, not just initial sales.

Why do the Japanese have to be so stereotypical? Why does it take an RPG designed by Akira Toriyama to really put the 360 "on the map" in Japan?

for the same reason it took a game like Halo to put the Xbox "on the map" in the US.

Twisted are you somehow saying they sold 135 000 consoles? I thought it was 80 000 games copies and 35000 consoles. Or are you claiming that the prebundles were counted on some other week, and if so why haven't that been seen on the weekly numbers?

The stats in the above article were for the number of consoles sold this week... presumably because BD was released... AFAIK these consoles were not sold as a bundle, just people picking them up at the same time as the game.

The pre-bundles were counted on the week the pre-orders went on sale. They were console/BD bundles with 10K of the limited edition available and 90K of the non-limited edition available (same game and console but the LE came with a BD faceplate, calendar, and figurines) even the non LE bundles were limited in quantity and they sold out in the first day.

For those that don't remember: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...pFFdyuzTWSt.php

I didn't see the figure of # of copies of BD sold but if what you say is true (80K copies of BD sold this week) it means BD has already sold 180K with 135K consoles sold as a result of BD. It's entirely possible that more copies were sold this week and MS has already reached their goal of 200K copies of BD sold in Japan.
