This Sunday Big Retail Day for Video Games
Posted by XanTium | December 16 20:26 EST

From businessweek.com/Associated Press:
[QUOTE]
This Sunday [Dec 17th] will be the "last big push" for the video game sector ahead of the holidays, with sales of the Xbox360, the Nintendo Wii and Sony's PlayStation 2 the main focus for retailers, according to analyst P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research.

The analyst said his research shows hardware sales tracking from 800,000 to 900,000 PS3 units sold in North America by the end of the year, and between 1.3 million and 1.5 million Wiis over the same period.
Microsoft's Xbox 360, which launched a full year ahead of its next-generation rivals, is on pace for 1.1 million to 1.3 million units sold in December. Microsoft Corp. sold about 500,000 of the systems in November, and, McNealy noted, will reach its forecast of 10 million units shipped by the end of the year.

I just wish the xbox360 sells more than 10 millions and a half.

or better yet..... 11 millons!!!! rolleyes.gif

I also wish those millions mean something in the next year because the Wii and the PS3 will not stop existing for another year and a month again wink.gif

So basically I'm getting up at 6AM so i can be at Best Buy half an hour before opening and get a Wii. There's 2 EB games, a Gamestop and a Best Buy where I live and if I can't pick one up with those odds I don't deserve to live. biggrin.gif

After the holidays console sales decline and there is no way the PS3 will be selling in high numbers after.

when more ps3 hit the stores people will go mad to get one spesially in japan... and we know how many people live there... the ps3 will outsell the x360 easy, when there is more consoles on the marked... the crazyness you have seen and heard about when it comes to ps3, its only at its beginning...

Sorry Bro I don't see it happening. I have (within 10 minutes of my house) 3 EB's & 2 Gamestops all of wich have had 2 - 4 PS3 units in stock since Wed of this week. Not to mention that the Target and 2 Super Walmarts next to my house all had units on Friday and today. Couple that with the rate that the prices have fallen on EBAY and Craigs list (to almost resale level with very little mark up). I just don't see the PS3 selling that well, I think Sony underestimated the effect the large price tag would have on the common person and will be feeling the hurt in the comming months in the US. Of coursae they will continue to sell out in Japan until they saturate the market or everyone has a Wii (hahaha).

Just my opinion based on what I have seen in my area (Houston) and seen on the web auctions.

Do you want to put some money on it? Yes the PS3 will outsell the xbox in Japan but worldwide? No way...

In Europe 2 million HDTVs were sold since they came out and in other areas HDTV is performing even worse. Paying $600.00 for the PS3 without owning a HDTV is like wasting your money.

"sales of the Xbox360, the Nintendo Wii and Sony's PlayStation 2 the main focus for retailers"

Sony has to be kicking themselves that their new console won't even be the focus of sales this holiday season after its recent release...I guess that's what happens when you force a format on your consumers that both delays production and also radically increases cost.

Every generation people are saying that Sony is done, they said that with PS1, it sold 100+ Million, they said that with PS2, it sold 100+ Million and now people are saying that with PS3 despite people getting shot trying to get one. Until people start getting shot to get a Wii or 360, PS3 will outsell both of them combined and sell 100 Million again this gen. Face the facts, PS3 has the best 3rd Party support with big Sales in all regions of the world, unlike Wii and 360 which struggle in some markets. PS3 has just too much hype and its going to take more than one generation to Stop the Playstation console brand.

I am not a fanboy of Sony Playstation, but have you guys really touch the playstation 3 and your xbox 360.

The xbox 360 is a plastic toy compare to the playstation 3. Even if Microsoft sells 12 million , if won't matter because quanity will never outlast quality.

Once Playstation 3 gets it going , microsoft 360 is done.

You are basing this off their previous console and the fact that they feel nicer. Obviously they are nicer but that comes at an additional 200 dollars which won't be going down anytime soon. According to your logic Atari would be first if it was based on previous generations. Unfortunately companies rise and fall.

So, because the PS3 is supposedly made of better material, it's a better console?

First of all, quality depends on much more than build or what material the device is built with.

Secondly, most people are going to care more about the games (or at the very least, the brand name) more than they will the material their console is built from.

Third, considering the Premium 360 is still $100 cheaper than the basic PS3, the cost alone will drive people away from PS3 and towards the 360.

Finally, when will PS3 get going? And why will the 360 be done? You didn't even give any reasoning.

i think wii sales will slow down after february. there is a lot of hype on the wii right now and i think it'll generally die down over time. not discrediting the console any, just seems like hype right now is too high for it. and there is only one way to go ;p i actually think the 360 is going to sell a little short this holiday and will do better in spring 07. ps3 sales will pick up as supply does. although the demand for the ps3 isn't too high right now. there's a lot of negativity surrounding the console. pretty much anyone i know who has one or knows someone with one says, they don't like it or, it isn't all what it is hyped up to be. i have a 360, wii and ps3. i think each console has its strengths and weaknesses. we'll see what happens over the next 6 months.
