Hacking pressure on ps3 has become too low. Won't happen, with all these firmware updates...
More details about current situation for homebrewing/linux on consoles :
360: linux/homebrew : YES (requires heavy mods, though. I exclude not free xn/a) hardware accelerated 2D through X11 : NO hardware accelerated 3D through X11 : NO hardware accelerated 3D through low level coding : YES (thx tmbinc) sound : NO (but may happen quick if someone works on it seriously) Total RAM : 512Mb
PS3: linux/homebrew : YES (out of the box) hardware accelerated 2D through X11 : YES (very recent, thx glaurung) hardware accelerated 3D through X11 : NO (need more work) hardware accelerated 3D through low level coding : YES (thx ironpeter) sound : YES (out of the box) Total RAM : 512Mb (very recent, thx ironpeter and glaurung)
So... there is a switch coming in. Homebrew people will tend to switch to PS3. The problem with 360 is all the heavy mods required to activate homebrew. Will take a lots of time to soften.
About pirates, I think they will just stick to 360. I think PS3 will be unharmed in that field (and that will be the first time in console history). So, don't expect any PS3 backup related hack (for lastest fw's).
