XbeFix
Posted by Iriez | December 19 20:15 EST

A new command prompt tool for patching non-booting xbe's (for c4a's Xtreme v5.0)

This will attempt to fix a patched xbe file so that it's signature and hashes are valid again. It checks the signature and hashes and tries different values for commonly patched parts of an xbe file until the expected signature and hashes are reached.

If something such as the game title string is patched, then it is basically impossible to guess what it orignially was, so try patching this back to its original string before running this tool. This also applies for other non-generic patches that this tool would not be likely to know.

What is different about talking about restoring/recovering/redoing xbox1 backups for use on Xbox 360 than talking about backing up a 360 backup? Discussion of backing up a 360 disc from a backup is not allowed in these forums and should be no different than backing up an Xbox 1 backup! If one has original Xbox 1 game, then they have no need to patch the xbe, nor should they discuss converting iso structures etc. from backups to make compatible with xtreme 5.0.

It's hard to dispute the fact that this program makes people that use it sound like they pirate software, but let's look at it this way. It will also verify that your default.xbe is unmodified before burning it to disk. Let's face it, alot of backup software automatically patches the default.xbe without you knowing or asking for confirmation. And I don't like making coasters. I have enough of them already! Back to the subject though...

Let's say I have a iso already on my hard drive from my xbox via ftp. All I need to do is extract the files, run xbefix to verify/fix the xbe, and use GDFimage.exe (~clears throat~) to remake the iso, correct? I have a quick .bat file that i wanted to try. I will post it if I can verify it works.

Also, one other question... If I previously made an iso copy of an original xbox game, but created with another application other than GDFimage, can I extract the files and compile it again to work with xtreme 5.0, or is some format lost in that process?

Update: OK, I spent a little time making a batch command to fix iso's that were not created with GDFimage. I do not take credit for any of these programs (especially GDFimage - thanks microsoft!), but wanted a simple command to fix a few iso's I had without starting from scratch... For this to work, you need this batch file, GDFimage, xbefix, and XDFSExtract in the same directory. Of course you can modify the script to your particular file system...

Just open a command prompt and launch the BAT file and point it to the iso.

ExtractFixCreateISO.BAT
-----------------START CODE-----------------
@echo off
if %1 == "" goto usage

set ORIGISO=%~f1
set PATH=%~dp1temp
set FIXEDISO=%~dp1%~n1_fixed%~x1

echo Extracting %~nx1 to temp folder, fixing xbe and creating %~n1_fixed%~x1
pause

if not exist "%PATH%" MD "%PATH%"
%~dp0XDFSExtract "%ORIGISO%" "%PATH%
%~dp0XbeFix "%PATH%\default.xbe"
%~dp0GDFimage "%PATH%" "%FIXEDISO%"
RD /S /Q "%PATH%\"
goto end
:usage
echo Usage: XDFSExtract xboxgame.iso
:end
------------------END CODE------------------

Please post comments, recommendations, or suggestions... and tell me if this works. I have tried it and so far it looks good.

I'm not sure I follow this argument. All this does is fix the .xbe files that a LOT of backup/copy programs patch automatically without you necessarily realizing it. Without this tool, you'd need to go find your original disc and then extract the files with some tool that DOESN'T tamper with the .xbe files. As far as I know, most methods of creating backups DO tamper with the .xbe files. So, this tool makes life easier as it will quickly fix the .xbe so you can use it on the 360. As far as making a backup from a backup, just destroy your original backup with the patched .xbe after you use this method to create the Xtreme compatible one. What would you need it for anyway ?

open a command prompt. drag xbefix.exe onto it, add a space and drag the default.xbe that needs to be fixed onto the cmd prompt. press enter.

eg:
"C:\Xbox Applications\xbefix.exe" "C:\Xbox Backups\Halo 1\default.xbe"

Some programs, like QWIX, now make a default_orig.xbe in the root folder before patching it. Sometimes you can swap that for the patched xbe instead.

Can someone tell me what im doing wrong here? Ok xbefix is telling me my xbe is valid, but when i go to play the game, its telling me the region code is wrong. Is that just something the dash says when it knows somethings wrong with the files? Cause i know this game is NTSC. I extracted the iso with xiso & rebuilt with gdf*....Is that where my problem lies? Oh yea i should mention that im using a Hitachi drive right now, i do have a Samsung....but im using this one for now. smile.gif And i did burn to a DL

Any help plz

EDIT-Damn! Thanks to QWIX, come to find out, the game is PAL. Sorry guys...Anyways, i guess im doing it correctly, just need to use the right region. lol

I created the bat file and gathered all the tools needed placed them in the same dir as the iso I was gonna patch. Patch worked great all my hashes were corrected then it rebuilt the iso. I then took the newly fix-iso and burned it with nero6 final with verbatim16x at the speed of 4x on a pioneer burner. I placed the new fix backup in the 360 and It DID NOT work. Tried 3 times with 3 different iso and got the same outcome everytime. Has anyone else got this to work using the bat file wolfienuke made?

I don't think it's the BAT file. It has worked on many occations, but there is something else wrong. Some people have 100% success, others some success, most get 0% success. We'll keep trying though. I'm working with different rips from different programs, comparing iso md5 hashes and trying to see what works.
