(Japan) Week2 of Blue Dragon ... 17k Xbox360s Sold
Posted by XanTium | December 21 21:46 EST

The new M-Create numbers are in for the week of December 11-17. The Xbox 360 sold 17168 units (35343 last week - the Blue Dragon launch week). Blue Dragon ranked 46th this week (down from 4th) and is the only 360 title in the top50.
The Sony PS3 sold 70942 units (50171 last week), the Nintendo Wii sold 108237 units (85439 last week) and the Xbox360 is beaten by the PS2 again with its 37730 units sold (30460 last week).
If my calculations are right this bring the installment base of the Xbox 360 to ~230k, PS3 to ~308.8k and Wii to ~521.2k in Japan.

On a WorldWide scale it's much harder to get numbers. However the nexgenwars estimates have proven to be not far from the truth usually, just keep in mind these are no official numbers.
Worldwide installment base for the next-gen consoles:
Xbox 360: 8,874,211
PS3: 503,254
Wii: 1,877,329

Not a suprise PS3 & Wii are out selling Xbox360. There aren't that many NTSC-J games that are that great.

Its funny that after 1 year head start, both Wii and PS3 overtook the 360 in Japan in one month. I guess its a case of not having any games that cater to Japanese gamers. Sure Blue Dragon seems like something they would like, but it doesn't come off as a killer app such as say Gears of War is in the US.

nextgenwars.com is very fake, they really pull #s out their ass. The 360 #s for instance are units "shipped" not units sold. For a much more accurate count head over to www.vgcharts.org

Now they are so reliable 3rd parties use their data, so from nwo on it's best to link to them instead of Nextgenwars...

I think that site is the one pulling numbers out the ass. Those figures from that site are way off. The 360 was at 6.5 million back in September and that was units sold. Right now it's 8.8 million units sold. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360

nexgenwars was actually right.

P.S Looks like wikipedia are in the process of updating because the link said as of Dec 21 it was 8.8 million sold. Now it shows data from September.

No one can claim to know which sites numbers are more accurate, without going out and counting how many systems have been sold by hand. Fighting over which site is correct is pointless, both are probably wrong. happy.gif

No matter who is right, it is gonna take a long time for either systems to hit 8.8million systems sold. Especially since the sales of all systems are still going up. People are not gonna stop buying the 360 all together. Hell Sony cant even produce that many systems! Thats the funny part, so how are they gonna even think about catching up smile.gif

in last months' Game Informer they bring up the discrepancy in Microsoft's #s vs. the NPD #s. According to GI that trhough August the 360 has only sold 2.4 million units in the USA. They also mentioned that 360 is selling at slower pace than the original Xbox. In September 2006 the 360 sold 260,000 units, this would place 360 sales at 2.7 million units in the USA. With a solid Oct. and a great Nov. with another smashing Dec., the 4.49 million figure is feasible. So I can fathom a install base of 4.49, but clearly nextgenwars.com #s are not reality. If anyway has time to get NPD data and post in here, much appreciated.

http://www.vgcharts.org/forum/thread.php?id=79 Novembers NPD #s if anyone cares.

Wow see how easy it is for MS to lie/confuse its consumers by saying it sold 6million up until october, sold for ms means they are sold to retailers, wich means that every console shipped from ms are counted and has nothing to do with how many consoles they have sold.

But I guess its hard to believe that your favorite console isn't doing as good as it really should...

and yes nextgen is crap take the ps3 numbers for instance, as of the 17th there where 310k sold in japan, in november 197k where sold in the us, wich brings us to nextgenwars 500k, but what about december in the us didn't they get any consoles? while japan has gotten ~150k during the same time?

MS is not the only console company that counts systems sold that way; both sony and nintendo do it to.

Sony is just so picked on, aren't they? Thank you for coming to their rescue. On that note, i hear home depot is having a sale on their knee pads. You should get some before their gone.

Every console that sold 10 million first is usually the one which is the winner in the end, judging by the past history.
