(USA/CAN) Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty to One Year
Posted by XanTium | December 22 14:00 EST

From the Microsoft PressRelease:
[QUOTE]
In a move to benefit customers, Microsoft Corp. announced today that it will change the Xbox 360 warranty from 90 days to one year from the date of purchase in the United States and Canada. Microsoft extended the warranty in these territories to be consistent with the standard one-year Xbox 360 warranty that is available throughout most of the world. The news is reason to celebrate this holiday season; it applies to both would-be purchasers and those who already have Xbox 360 and are still within their first year of ownership.

Effective today, the one-year warranty is now the standard for the Xbox 360 console. Customers who experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase can have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers who may have already paid for an out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.

"Customer satisfaction is a central focus and priority for the Xbox 360 system," said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "In addition to jaw-dropping features such as high-definition graphics, an amazing variety with a catalog of over 160 games, and social online and entertainment experiences on Xbox Live, the Xbox 360 system now offers this extended warranty upgrade. It is truly the industry's most compelling home entertainment offering."

Customers who have already paid out-of-warranty repair charges within their first year of ownership can expect reimbursement checks for the amount of their console repair in approximately 10 weeks. Reimbursements will be automatically distributed, so customers need not contact Microsoft. Customers who have questions regarding this policy change or experience any hardware issues should visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact where they can check their warranty status, find troubleshooting information for common issues and find Xbox support contact information.

If this doesn't scream ops we screwed up and our consoles brake way to easy, I don't know what would.

Its a great treat for everyone that has been thinking of getting or own a 360 though. Now if they could just get the 65nm out there and then the 360 will be the truely great console it should have been from the start.

Christmas presents for everyone

so what happens to the 2005 consoles now? are they still under their warranty or did this just shaft anyone with a 2005 console (prior to this 2005 consoles were under an indefinitely extended warranty). good news though.

Well ya it is saying "oops" but its also saying "we're going to fix mistakes and renig the disgusting under handed 90day warrenty".

Its a good move. A little overdue, but its good they've decided to stand by their product.

Oh wow, they're reimbursing too?!?! That's kind of unheard of.

Sounds like excellent news for all you gamers who had MS play you around and only give you 90days warranty. Luckily the UK didnt have such an odd rule enforced. Anyways, just wondering, when MS do take your Xbox to be repaired/replaced, do you need to provide a reciept confirming you bought it within the year? Also do you get a furthur year warranty on the box which gets returned to you?

What about all us poor saps who have had their console die 3 or 4 times now....Mine was returned to Best Buy in October a month later they returned it and it worked for a whole 4 hours and I haven't seen it yet. Great news but just a bit on the late side for some of us. By the time I get mine back the year will be up on mine as it has a build date of Jan 25 06.

You dont need to send your receipt they will ask you for your serila number# and from there they''ll find out if its within the year.
It happend with my toshiba laptop and my motorola Razr. And as for the added warranty for the replace or fixed console dont know but on warranty for my Razr they told me once they fix it or replace that SET no more fix or replacement.
So i guess it all depend on what mood Mr M$ Bill will be smile.gif

i think it's great news. extending warranty and refuding won't fix some people's gripes (the ones who have gone through 4 - 5 consoles) but it is still the right move by MS. it will also make people feel more confident in buying it but might at the same time make people think that the console is defective. although, i don't think it will be the latter to new customers. when you see a better warranty on a product you usually feel better about the product instead of thinking that the product is cheap, you think it's a quality, well made product since the people that are making it are willing to support it for a longer period of time. might be too late to affect holiday sales though.

Mine just died yesterday. I was tempted to open it up and fix it myself. Good thing I didn't... Now I don't have to sent out hate email to MS for their bad business model.

How? They will only know from the serial number (if anything at all), the manufacturing date. And im sure some people may have purchased xbox's from little stores which are 1/2year+ old so that wouldnt mean they only got 1/2 year warranty. Or is it, if this is the case, then they will ask for a reciept?

Im just considering if its worth going secondhand or brand new. The secondhand market after xmas will be excellent you see laugh.gif

yeah i thought this was talked about before. i guess if its on digg that means its new news. but how about a warranty for the d pad on wireless controllers? i never would have know there was a problem until i started playing UMK3 and street fighter. POS controller although i think there is a thread on here telling how to fix the problem (which i did) but what about everyone else that doesnt want to take their controller apart?
