From my experience with the VGA cable, the cable only seems to work on the CRT monitors. I checked the Ranges and it ran Horizontal at 39 and the Vertical at 59. As for LCD, it did not work since the Mhz were around 60 for both. This is from multiple testing on monitors and LCDs. Almost all the CRTs worked but none of the LCD's worked. You may have to mess with the settings on the CRT to even the size of the picture but I was able to do it. Works great for work so you just have to lug in the PS3, cable, and controllers. BTW hello, new to the forums. I bought my cable from play-asia.com. It's a VGA for the PS3/Wii. I have yet to try for the wii.

Welcome to the forums!

I've seen the ps3 vga cable sold at play-asia. I'm curious as to how it works, because the ps3 doesn't support vga in its bios. It only support vga in linux, and only at a resolution lower then 640x480. I'm wondering if the play-asia's ps3 vga cable is really just a transcoder - converts component to vga?

Thank you for the welcome, What I have noticed from owning the VGA cable, the PS3 shows up on a monitor as 1080i, 720i, and I can't remember the last one. I own a projector and the cable it uses to change the signal from component to VGA is a VGA to Component cable. I'm thinking this works in the same aspect as the PS3 signal. I tried the Wii yesterday at work and it worked ok but with a bit of flashing in the beginning. once I played for about 5 min, it worked fine after that. Actually, the cable will work first try if the settings are on component. One thing I did try before was using that cable that came with my projector, put male to male connectors, and connected the component cable to the ps3 with the component cables to the projector, and it did convert the signal. As before, if you are using a CRT monitor, this cable from playasia does work. My refresh frequency was 37.9 Horizontal and my Vertical was 59.6. Don't know if that helps.
