I also wanted to add.

if this is your first case mod i wouldnt do it on a clear case. when cutting on a clear case you are unable to hide your mistakes. i would either practise alot on some scrape plastic before cutting your clear case.

How are you making a cnc machine, is it like a plotter w/ x-y coords?

kind of mine will have x-y-z cords so it can plunge and possibly even do some 3D work. if my plans work out right ill be able to make the basic table and controls for about $100 and there are kits out there with the motors and computer interfaces for about $300-$400.

so if everything works out i will have my own CNC Machine for $400-$500 instead of $3,000 for a Micro Mill biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

ADD: im not going to start building it until after the new year ..... im thinking mid January.

ill check with one of the Moderators and see if i can make a thread here to keep you guys up to date.

I used a dremel and some ridiculously small bit I found in the garage.....and then I filed and sanded down to the lines to make sure it looked good.

but the sanding may not work to well on a clear case

Well hopefully the moderators will be ok with it, that sounds extremely promising. and even better, if it ends up working out, you could use the BST forum to do custom case work for people smile.gif. That would return your investment very quickly. not sure how people could submit plans though, vinyl plotters use vector stuff, but w/ 3d I have no idea... Sounds good overall, can't wait for updates =)

the smallest you can find. if your needing detail

i actually use a 1/16 sears bit on my Dremel since no one by me has the real small Dremel bits. i had to mod my Dremel alittle so it would hold onto the Sears bit. the shaft on them are smaller then the Dremel ones.

you can buy fiberglass reinforced dremel bits at certain places, and they dont wear out as quickly as the regular cutoff wheels, but they are way more expensive.
