Xbox 360 topped US hardware sales chart over Xmas
Posted by XanTium | January 2 10:54 EST

From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
According to NPD's preliminary estimates, around 2 million Xbox 360 units were sold in North America from November up until December 25.

The figure for Nintendo Wii stood at 1.8 million units - despite the fact the console only launched in North America on November 19.
Stock shortages were an even bigger problem for Sony. Around 750,000 PlayStation 3 units were sold during the same period.

Glad to see the 360 still selling strong after a year.

I have seen PS3s sitting on the shelves, but have yet to find a Wii - and after playing all day on Christmas with my nephews, I want one. Guess I'll have to wait...maybe I will just wait for the ones with the new drives that will actually play DVDs...

barely outselling a system that has shortages is not really good news.

Agreed.

1) Wii
2) 360
3) PS3

New systems always sell well so what is your point exactly? The 360 has been out for over a year and those are good sales figures. I don't think it's possible for the Ps3 to catch the Xbox US and Worldwide sales.

Wii sales will begin to drop so much in the upcoming months. People will get tired of it and the poor graphics will just get really old. That's just my opinion.

I agree with rasstar. IMO the Wii is great for the first hour, then it's just a gimmick.

I own all three systems and the best overall system is the 360 in my opinion. The PS3 let me way down and after i beat resistance i don't even play it anymore. I tried everything on the PS3 to get it to be a worthwhile investment, Linux ECT. I enjoy games first and foremost and the PS3 has so far failed miserably.

The Wii in the other hand is a lot of fun and Zelda trauma center and wii sports are good games. The problem with the Wii is that unless it is a first party game that has the Wii remote seamlessly integrated into the game the game just sucks. I have red steel and not only are the graphics some of the worst I have ever seen (at 480p thru component mind you) but the controls are so inaccurate it was a waste of a DVD.

I agree that the Wii's momentum seems like it will wear off soon due to the poor graphics and while games like Wii sports are fun for the whole family the Wii remote is going to hurt nintendo as much as it helps.

Now my 360 still gets played a lot because it has the games I want at the resolution I want them at.

I feel the order should be

1 360
2 Wii
3 PS3

But at this point it is all just speculation

Of this new generation consoles I Only own the 360 and the impressions of mlmadmax are EXACTLY what I tought about PS3 and Wii.

PS3 has absolutely no gaming reason to be worth US$300 not to mention the MINIMUM US$500 price and if it keeps loosing exclusivities in the pace it's losing them, will have no chance outside Japan. It will be a good contrast with the 360 that has no chance INSIDE Japan.

Wii TOTALLY feels like a gimmick that will depend uniquely of Nintendo's 1st pty superb quality games. 3rd pties have neither the time, the money and the will to waste on what the wiimote shows it needs:LOTS of TLC during game CREATION and implementation.

BUT, I can be wrong. Let's see. I'll keep my mind open to any change in the current scenario, but if nothing changes, there's no way Xbox 360 can't be the worlwide #1 in 2010.

I already own a 360. Now I am trying to get a wii even if it is a gimmick and will die away soon they can add one more to the 1.8million as soon as I can find one. Always loved the mario, mario kart and zelda games. Now for the PS3, I was at frys over the weekend and they had two of them. I walked by them looked at them and kept moving along.

Just one Question:
I'm not from USA, so i do not know the situation in US stores. Did you have to a chance to get a PS3 if you wanted one, lets say the last week before christmas or did Sony sell everything they could deliver?
Here in Germany, you could easily buy a 360 on Saturday 23. December (but no WII, for example, PS3 is not out here).
So i dont't know who is the 'real' winner in 2006.
