Nyko Announces PS3/Xbox 360 'Zero' Controllers
Posted by XanTium | January 3 19:42 EST

From vggen.com:
[QUOTE]
Nyko announced today that it will unveil its Zero line of controllers for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Zero controller features 2.4 GHz wireless technology, heat-dissipating aluminum panels, backlit buttons, and "a unique ergonomic design." The Zero runs on a rechargeable battery pack.
Both controllers (along with a PC version apparently not being shown at CES) will be available in Q1 2007, and retail for $49.99. A version is already available for the PS2.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought MS hasn't released their "wireless protocol" so that 3rd party companies can use this on their products. I hope this is true so that we can see more wireless products from other companies. I am waiting on a wireless arcade fighting stick.

I thought the same thing, unless they figured it out. happy.gif I welcome any 3rd party controller for the ps3 however, that thing creaks when you barely squeeze it. The plastic is so thin and cheap.

Would be nice to see some kind of unified controller that can be used with ps3/360 and uses the standard MS battery packs.

in addition to that. they say it will run on a wi-fi signal when the ps3 controller has to run on blue tooth. wonder how this is gonna affect prices. from what i heard the Wi-fi that MS uses has a lower latency but im just guessing

this was more or less my understanding as well. MS hadn't or wasn't going to released the wireless protocols, which is why has shoe horned 3rd party developers into releasing only WIRED controllers so far.

However.. even if MS haven't given up the golden goose.. there is still a way to provide wireless controller for 360.

Go dongle style.. like the first console. Stick the USB dongle in the USB port.. it would act as a wired controller. Then.. from that point.. act as a typical wireless controller using whatever method of choice.

I know it's way out.. but it's quite easily doable.

Guess we wait until CES to see the pudding.. smile.gif

With the protocol licensing in question and MS controllers already being amazing, I am not sure how anyone can improve, but I am willing to see. Although, my Logitech wireless controllers for the original xbox both broke, so my 3rd party confidence is very very low.

That PS3 controller is awful - fells light and very cheap - who cares about the motion-sensing chip when you threw away the rumble-pack ability - very very poor decision, but then again Sony made too many mistakes to count in this generation...

prolly fit snug on the back USB is its a dongle

but that will kinda suck too, because thats where my vision camera is hooked up... maybe a dongle, then has another usb slot on the back so its not wasting a spot?

yeah... SO hardcore that it would get stuck and you'd be unable to take it out again!

Hah...

I wonder if these will be available in the UK..

It would be pretty impressive if they made one controller that works on both the Ps3 and the Xbox360. I would buy that. biggrin.gif

Don't get me wrong, I love the MS wireless controller. I just want a wireless arcade fighting stick and Madcatz made a controller for the XBLA games. I just want everything wireless.
