LG Hybrid HD DVD/Blu-ray Player Getting Canned?
Posted by XanTium | January 12 22:11 EST

From gizmodo.com:
[QUOTE]
As we reported from CES, LG's BH100 fully supports Blu-ray discs, but since it lacks support for HD DVD's iHD, HD DVD's interactive menus, you can only see the movie straight through.

So as a result, the DVD Forum might sue LG for falsely using the HD DVD logo and for falsely saying that their hybrid player plays HD DVDs when in fact it doesn't play them the way they were intended to be played.
Microsoft was also a bit miffed at LG for... not giving them a heads up before announcing the BH100.

There is no way that the DVD Forum would sue LG for putting out an HD-DVD compatible player. All that they could do is disallow LG the use of the HD-DVD logo. The machine could still play HD-DVD discs fine, but they just couldn't really advertise it. All HD-DVD products, in order to get the logo, must adhere to DVD forum guidelines, otherwise they will not be given the rights to use the logo. No one outside of LG knows exactly what the problem is in terms of the hybrid player not supporting fully HDi for HD-DVD, perhaps it will be added in a future firmware update, which then would allow them to use the HD-DVD logo as long as this firmware update is made available within the allotted time frame.

looks to me like it's supported, just not fully supported. it would be decieving to have the hd-dvd compatible logo on it. i think it should be removed.

yes I agree, very poor choice of words to say that it is HD compatible...the logo must be removed or I can see many a consumer being taken advantage of...and many returns on that product.

no blu-ray porn, so Blu-ray is going to die anyway, Sony just doesn't get it. And obviously they don't remember history either.
