The Pioneer DVR-116, and the SATA version Pioneer 216 are the crowd favorite at XS for a good reason, they are great burners.
Here are some quick info on the Pioneers ,
- Pioneer burners sets booktype (bitsetting) automatically to DVD-ROM for Double Layer +R, thus no need to change anything if you have a Pioneer.
- You will find here the CdFreaks full review of the pioneer 116.
- Previous Pioneer are also excellent burners (111,112,115), and the double layer burning started on the 108/A08 model.
With the Pioneer, burning your verbatim 2.4x (MkM001) at 2.4x or 4x appears to be an adequate choice, and the Verbatim 8x (MKM003) should be burned at 4x or 8x. The Pioneer will burn them at all speed from 2.4X to 8X: Slower speed (2.4X) do not seem to produce better burns and higher speed (6X and 8X) apparently introduce slghtly longer loading time. So only testing it will tell you which is best for your specific setup.
Finally
there is no way to stress enough the need for good media in support of your Pioneer and on that you must read this
post by Jesterrace777. When a system reads a dvd there is a limit to the number of errors it can correct without calling it quit and declaring the DVD unusable. Below are two quality scans (Lower errors is better!!). You will find the performance of a Verbatim (top) and a Ritek (marketed under RiData, memorex, TDK, Some of Sony...) and as you can see the the Ritek is off the chart I use. It does not mean it will not work, but it certainly increases the chances of a problem. In conclusion threat your Pioneer (and your X360 drive)well by feeding it decent food (as perceived by a burner obviously!!!).

NOTE: I recieved a PM as to why I used the Liteon 165H6S in the scans above. It is the only little weakness I see of the Pioneer , not being a good scanner. You should not care about this unless you are real serious about doing quality scans of your burns, see posts 2 and 3
here.
Hope it helps,
rgds, soso
