Comparing XB Live, PS Network, and WiiConnect24 as is
Posted by XanTium | January 18 21:36 EST

From gameinformer.com:
[QUOTE]
It's interesting to see how three different companies view their online ties. Microsoft is positioning itself as an all-things-to-all-people type of solution, and the approach seems to be working. Sony hopes to offer many of the same things as Xbox Live--at no extra charge. While it's experiencing substantial growing pains, it certainly has the resources to deliver. Nintendo seems content to offer Wii owners a few nifty toys, a large chunk of retro gaming and a bleak number of upcoming online multiplayer titles. As mentioned before, Microsoft does have the advantage of time. What remains to be seen is how Sony and Nintendo intend to give players the best possible online experiences.

ha. The best part is how the article makes ps3 online seem just as good as live, but FREE!!!

ya right, good job idiots. Its gonna take a lot to even come close to the quality and features of live.

PS does anyone know if they are going to release live updates like a browser?

Yeah fat chance. I am not trying to sound like a fan boy, but I would like to see the day that happens biggrin.gif

And your logic is faulty, there are more ps2s than xboxs and 360s if I am not mistaken and ps2 has free online yet live is exponetially more popular than ps online.

Still think ps3 will not only do better with ps3 online and sell more units world wide? Just wait till halo 3.

Ha, give me 8 grand and i'll go pick up 10 ps3s collecting dust on the shelves for ya and you can hook em all up to the internets, that will about double the amound of ps3s online....

Hopefully the PS3N will get a lot better when it's released in Pal territories. But only online gaming is free on the PS3, not most of the stuff in the store happy.gif

One thing I've wondered about is how will the ps network generate revenue to pay for servers and bandwidth. Do they expect the user to buy that much content so that it will go around, since I don't think it's cheap to run a global network.
I just have a feeling that the "free" will somewhat change, either that or that they will limit the accessability/bandwidth. My guess, in case of the latter, is that the Europeans will take the fall.

One thing that reporters and fanboys always fail to mention is WHY the Sony netwowrk is free. It's only free because it would be illegal for Sony to charge for a service that they don't provide. The fact of the matter is that multiplayer servers are still maintained by developers. There is no unified service. Developers still have the free reign to charge for their service as well if they see fit. Sony can't charge you for their online network simply because it doesn't exist.

Any moron could have told you three years ago that the future of gaming and console was online connectivity and multiplayer. Sony really got caught with their head up their asses on this one. What the hell were they thinking? What happened to the Xbox Live killer that they said they planned on rolling out? I really believe that dropping the ball on the PS3's online capabilities was the nail in Sony's coffin.

Xbox Live FTW! Accept no substitutions!

Well sony expect the publishers to pay for it, as a result you will see less games online and some companies will try to sneak charges in there somewhere. Sony CANNOT guarrantee free online, this is what ppl don't understand. They can only guarrantee that SONY's servers are free. Thats what they mean when they see online will be free. First party games will mos def be free but other companies might not.

Hello Fellow Gamers. Bottom LINE is that the Xblive online service is the BEST that's out right now & will be for a very long time to come. It will be years before SONY can even get to the level of service that's on Xblive. Nintendo is out of the online/multiplayer game.

When you think about it M$ has no competition in the Online gaming console dept. Oh yeah, The internet will see yet again another milestone, with the most users ever online on a console When HALO 3 debuts.

Thank you, this is what I am trying to say.

Don't try to refute it. Live is easily the best service and there is a small chance that:
1 Sony online will ever have the number of users as Live!
2 Sony will ever provide the quality of Live! service

You gotta be kidding me.....Most of the Sony fanboys i know have a 360...Why?? because its cheaper, easier to find, better online, just as good graphics if not better, etc.....Man i think u live in Japan, because here where i live most people have a 360...

edit: i only know of one person that has a ps3...i know more people with wiis than ps3s

If anyone has played on PS Network they will notice alot of lag and shitty gaming experience, the Xbox Live service has better support anytime you will understand if you pay for something then you will have room to complain and if you can complain then they have to make it better. Understand that and you will understand why paying is always better.
