Hey kids, I have a question for you guys, and hope someone may be able to steer me in the right direction. I've got a dreaded 1.6 that I modded with a Duo X2. Worked fine for a while. But now, it will freeze up somewhat randomly. When it freezes, the light stays green, but the picture freezes, and a nice lound sound is produced. Usually happens after 15 minutes of halo 2. I checked the temps, and they were a little warm, so I put arctic silver on the gpu and cpu heatsinks. That helped out, and its running at a good temp. Now, I read a little on the MCPX, and put a heatsink on that, still does the same thing, didnt even really buy any more time. I've tried different bioses in the chip, tried different dvd drives, ide cables, hard drives, all with the same result. Does it sounds like the mcpx is shot, or could maybe be corrupt ram? Seems as though the 1.6s are pretty notorious for both. Thanks for the input, guys.

I'm not an expert by any means, but it sound like a ram problem...

Well even though you put a heatsink on the mcpx if its gotten hot enough before...i think it will damage it permanently, i think ok, but if i am correct then a heatsnk will only mean it wouldnt get damaged even more

Could the power supply be the culprit? Just a shot in the dark.

Have you thought that the halo 2 CD might have a scratch in it?

Its not in the best of shape, but its not a dirty or scratched disc error. It works fine on other boxes with the same dvd drive. The xbox locks up at random spots, and in other programs. I just used that as an example.
