Gears of War has been released last week (January 18th) in Japan ... and it looks like it's off to a great start over there ... at least for an 'American-style FPS' on the 'still not so popular' Xbox360. GoW's 7th place (and 33212 copies sold) in last week's SW charts didn't beat Blue Dragon's first week (4th and 80348 copies sold) however. Seems like GoW is making XS news on the daily. And I didn't even like the game.

GoW is one of those Halo-like titles. It wont stop hitting the news until the series is over (which could be a while)

All i gotta say is bring on part 2! This is gonna be an awesome trilogy! I dig this game very much so it's good to see it ranking up there in the difficult Japan market for M$.

Actually If sales figures are anything to go by, it seems they bought RFoM just fine, its just not that 80% of the gamers only play FPS and nothing else...

Question is why did we get reports of total sell outs of Gears and then it does equal numbers as Lost planet and not even close to what BD did.

i double dog dare you to post without promoting the ps3 or questioning anything about the 360

i honestly suspect that microsoft may have shorthanded the shipment of GoW to japan not expecting it to sell this well. great to see an american title doing well over there though

Obviously because its an american title, its alot more interesting than a japanese title doing well in a Japanese market and also its a Z-rated (18 and over) game so its gonna have limited supply and the retailers have to treat it like porn (hide it and sell it under the counter or something like that). So for it to sell out despite all of this shows that GoW really is a killer title for that region with some decent marketing.

No, take a fps and have a japanese publisher take it on and then it will sell (eg. RFOM). These Japanese like to stick to their own.

Anyways, I think it's great that a 360 title is in the top ten. If I recall correctly, last week we didn't have ANY titles in the top 50. I'd like to see the console sale numbers to determine if GoW had any impact on moving hardware.

im not being racist but the news is always about how xbox360 isnt making it in japan. Japs generally like jap games and hate all others and you call me racist?
