I have a pre-flashed Hitachi 47DH, ROFL 360 that I am changing out the mobo (because of the ring of light, error 0110).

I've got Toolbox's tut on how to flash or restore and flash, but that assumes you are not changing the mobo key.

I've also got the Hitachi Key Insertion Tutorial which assumes you need to put a new DVD into the same mobo (kind of the reverse of what I need to do).

Now, I have the new mobo key, but I have never flashed a Hitachi before.

Since it is pre-flashed, I believe the proper procedure is to do a 'restore' first.

I know that I need to get it into modeb first (which I think I can do by powering off with the tray open, then powering back on since it is flashed with GaryOPA's 2.3 - but with the old mobo's key)

OK, lets pretend that I have it in modeb and I type "restore.bat" from a dos prompt, I would now have a fully restored firmware, albeit, it would still have the wrong mobo key.

Now, of course, I think I have to now use SLAX to get it back into modeb, since the power off with tray open trick will not work (since it no longer has GaryOPA on it).

Now I know once I put it into modeb, I can do a "Flash16s H 1234" assuming H is my DVD drive letter.

However, Where do I make my own firmware with the new mobo key?

Do I open the 47-16S that comes with Gary's package and inject my key into that with firmware toolbox, then encrypt it, and just place it into my flashing directory?

I don't want to risk bricking my Hitcachi 47dh, anyone with advice as to the proper procedure I need to swap out the mobo and the restore/reflash I need to perform to make it work with my new mobo?

Thanks in advance!!!

So, can no one help me understand how I restore my drive and add the new key into my current DVD?

You inject the key into the firmware and then use firmcrypt to encrpt it...

See..

So can someone confirm the proper procedure to replace the mobo key into a Hitachi 47dh is the following?

1) put into modeb
2) restore to original firmware (will keep original key)
3) open orig.bin in keydrive Xtractor, patch key with new mobo key and encrypt using firmcrypt
4) reboot and put back into modeb
5) flash a portion of the firmware to incorporate the new key by typing flashsec47_win i <bin name>.bin 90004000 1000
6) reboot and put back into modeb
7) use GaryOPA to flash the drive, which now contains the new mobo's key.
8) try playing original and backup

Is this the correct procedure? Is there an easier way?

1-Get your orig.bin
2-Open it with firmware toolbox 2.0 and encrypt the binary file. You'll have orig-e.bin
3- Put into modeB ,extract firmware folder somewhere and put the new orig-e.bin into it.
4-Type 47flash driveletter orig-e.bin 90004000 1000

That's it.What you have to do is encrypting your orig.bin with firmware toolbox.Do never use orig.bin.Always encrypted bin file to flash or patch the firmware.

So with that procedure, I am not restoring the firmware and reflashing.

Am I just inserting my new mobo's key into my already 2.3 flashed Hitachi?

Seems simple enough to me.

If this is true that it works, this is nice that the hitachi is just flashing a portion of the firmware and not the entire firmware like the Sammy's......

Can someone confirm this is the procedure I need to perform to get my DVD working again with my new mobo?

Myfranco (if you're out there). Or anyone else......

I just want to confirm one of the steps. You stated:

1-Get your orig.bin
2-Open it with firmware toolbox 2.0 and encrypt the binary file. You'll have orig-e.bin
3- Put into modeB ,extract firmware folder somewhere and put the new orig-e.bin into it.
4-Type 47flash driveletter orig-e.bin 90004000 1000

Since all I have from the new mobo is the 16 byte key, I think I need to do the following, slightly different procedure and I'm hoping you can confirm. Please keep in mind I am keeping the same DVD but replacing the mobo.

1-Get your orig.bin
2-Open it with firmware toolbox 2.0, replace key with new mobo key and encrypt the binary file. You'll have orig-e.bin
3- Put into modeB ,extract firmware folder somewhere and put the new orig-e.bin into it.
4-Type 47flash driveletter orig-e.bin 90004000 1000

Is that now the correct procedure?

Sorry if I'm paranoid, but I think I may only have 1 shot at this and don't want to risk bricking my drive.

Yes, that will flash your key. What drive original came with the mobo you bought as a replacement? You will probably need to change (spoof) your version strings so that it reports the correct original drive version to the new motherboard.

Caster420,

I thought of that, but luckily Grim had a moo that came with the same version Hitachi (47d) that mine is, so I shouldn't have to sppof anything. Plus, I think the mobo was pre-May 2006, so that would probably eliminate the need anyway.

Thanks for the replys!!!!
