I am thinking about upgrading to a 360, why are so many people replacing and moding their dvd-rom?

So as of right now we cannot copy them to our hard drive?

The only reason I back up my games is so I dont have to carry around all my games, I put them on my xbox hard drive. but I am running out of xbox games and need to upgrade to the 360.
