At the same time though, gaphics are nice and all, but they won't make up for gameplay.

If the gameplay sucks, then the best graphics in the world wont save the console/game.

graphics do matter but with out excelent and addicting game play and campaign stuff whats the use of good graphics its just a waste of time trying to clean up the game and its a bad game ya know? sry just fig out what i said and itll make sense cus (i dont).

How many times have we all heard this argument? . I think as generations continue to evolve we expect the graphics to evolve with it and for some people it's hard to look back. Now I won't say that graphics don't matter because some games would be dead without them (gears comes to mind), but I still stand by the point that graphics don't make the game what it is. If that was true I wouldn't be so damn addicted to Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wii sports .

Graphics are nice and should improve as time goes on but as stated before great grafics do not make up for poor game play. What about all the old school games on LIVE arcade? those are not all that great but they just as fun to play now as they were way back when.

As they say, you can't polish a turd. (Not with any success anyhow). As others have said, great graphics don't make a game.... they make a good/great game better. Gameplay is number one. Graphics, sound, force feedback and such are just things that can enhance a game... not make or break it.

Who the hell said graphics don't matter? They are important for sure, but graphics are one of many factors that make a great game.

Graphics matter, but gameplay does more.

His analogy to TV can be argued like this:

A crap movie on the best HDTV is still crap. The greatest movie on a decent television is more enjoyable. It will become even more enjoyable on the best HDTV. So the TV doesn't necessarily take bad movies over the top, but it can for a good movie. An awesome game combines all the elements- gameplay, graphics, etc.

But again, Tetris is more enjoyable for me than a lot of the crap that comes out with the greatest graphics. I wonder why?

If Mr Nvidia was right in what he said we wouldn't see the sheer volume of sales of xbox live arcade games just on game play and average graphics would we?

Also the Wii has graphics closer to that of xbox1 and yet that seems to be doing very well.

I think he's seriously worried that this year Nvidia is going to see HUGE LOSSES because more and more people will say "sod getting yet another $400 graphics card, or another computer just to play games, I'll get a console instead cos its cheaper and just as good"

Personally I think he should be sacked for his ill thought out comments.

To that 24 analogy. Does 24 have gameplay? No. Is the quality of the picture imperative to the enjoyment of it? Yes.

This is the exact opposite of video games. I can't believe these guys get paid to shit this stuff out

He is quoting only part of the quote. The real quote is "Graphics don't matter if gameplay sucks". Graphics alone might sell games, but they won't entertain and build a franchise

Im just going to agree and say that gameplay is more imprtant than graphics. I mean, Geometry Wars II is one of the most fun games ive ever played (and most Wii games).

Its like the Wii, everyone buys a wii because its FUN. It probably has the worst grahpics out of all current-gen consoles (i can call it current gen cant I? Or is it still called 'next gen'?) But its selling the most units atm.
