For some reason my controller port 3 won't work. It used to work but now it isn't. I opened my Xbox and everything appeared to be OK. Then for a little bit controller 2 wasn't working so I know it has nothing to do with the wires. Anyone know whats wrong?

I have X3 with Xapter. Version 1.0 Xbox and where the Xapter plugs into the motherboard were filled with solder but it still worked before.

1.0s have problems with the daughterboards sometimes going out, you can buy them in the BST for a couple bucks

Is there any other way without buying anything? Link please. Are they easy to install(soldering?)? Where is the daughterboard at?

well right when you said 1.0 thats just what I assumed, the daughterboard is the piece that the controller ports actually plug into, that then plugs into the motherboard. If you buy one its as simple as pulling the old one and putting in the new

Are there any pictures of how to do this or at least what the daughter board looks like? Can you give me a link to buy one? Is there anyway to do it without buying anything? Or is there a chance anything else is messed up?

open the console pull the hdd and dvd drive look at where the port wire's plug into it is a 1" X like 3" green pcb they plug into and it plugs into the motherboard either it is no good or it need's to be reseated again correctly maybe it is to much of an angle and cuasing it so make it straight 90 degree up and down

could also open the port metal casing on the controller port itself and check the wire's on the inside to be sure they are connected .

if you need a new duaghter board I have a box of them left still.

Same thing happened to me , turned out it was not the port but instead the controller. If you have a microsoft brand controller this could be the cause.

The daughter board looks like this:

IPB Image'

Open up your xbox and stop when you have the dvd drive and hdd out of the xbox. you will see the daughterboard is in the front of the xbox where the power eject assembly is to get it out pull upwards and then unplug the controller port cords that are connected to it! Replace with new daughterboard and put xbox together. All of that was assuming you have a faulty daugtherboard.
