This is a repeat thread, as my original thread was closed before anyone could respond... SICKdimension has allowed me to repost.

(Sorry about the quality of the second picture...)

This is my personal XBOX that sits with me at my computer desk, right next to my 19" LCD. It is my VGA-enabled XBOX, and it is the XBOX I use the most. It is also using my own custom VGA cable. You can see a picture of the VGA cable here: http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n243/sk...9/vga_cable.jpg

Specifications:

Frosty's v1.0 5101 Retail BIOS (Previously ran Microsoft 3944)
Custom UDE2 Complete w/NKPatcher v10-vga10
80GB Western Digital w/8MB Cache @ 7200RPM
Philips 6035/21 DVD-ROM
Artic Silver 5 on CPU & GPU
EvolutionX Dashboard
v1.0 Motherboard

(The jewel is actually alot more pink than it looks, the camera flash makes it look alot lighter...)

This is an XBOX that I custom made for my wife. She is the ONLY woman I have ever met that not only plays video games, but can also give me a run for my money on most of them. (Including Halo 1 & 2!) biggrin.gif

Specifications:

Frosty's v1.0 5101 Retail BIOS (Previously ran Microsoft 4034)
Custom UDE2 Complete w/NKPatcher v10-vga10
40GB Seagate w/8MB Cache @ 7200RPM
Thomson TGM600 DVD-ROM
Artic Silver 5 on CPU & GPU

So what's the deal with your Bios? What makes them better/worse than other common Bios?

Well, you see, the v1.0 XBOXes cannot run any retail BIOSes above the 4034, which means that 4817 and above do not work with v1.0 XBOXes. Now, the Retail 4034 BIOS has a small problem with textures not being mapped properly due to some bugs in the GPU code in the 4034 BIOS, but these bugs are corrected in all BIOSes above 4034. So what I did was I took a Retail 5101 BIOS (Originally for use on v1.2 XBOXes) and I modified the bootloader to be v1.0 compatible, and now you can run the 5101 kernel on a v1.0 XBOX. (I tried to use higher versions too, but the 5101 BIOS was the highest that was compatble.)

So basically, if you are a softmodder and you have a v1.0 XBOX, flashing my Retail v1.0 5101 BIOS will fix the GPU bugs that exist in the 4034 BIOS. (There may also be other benefits to running the 5101 kernel instead of the 4034 or 3944 BIOSes too, but I haven't seen any obvious ones.)

If you'd like, you can click the link in my signature, and it will take you to my worklog for my 5101 BIOS, now known as 'Frosty's v1.0 5101 Retail BIOS'.

Hey man, that's pretty cool, thanks for the info! Looks like you put a good deal of time into playing with them, congrats. But I do have to ask, Why would you flash the tsop on a box then softmod it?

edit: I totally derailed your thread with my Bios Q's, I have to say I like the black with white jewel, but then again that VGA cable is pretty fancy too.

NKPatcher virtual drives, shadowC, things like that would cause a person to run a softmod over flashing an Xecuter/iND/EvoX bios.

The biggest reason that I use retail BIOSes and softmods, is, well, because I can. biggrin.gif I like the idea of being able to do everything that modchip users can, and be running a retail BIOS too. Plus, the ShadowC drive and the ShadowEEPROM options are really nice.

Honestly though, the BIGGEST perk to using a softmod is that I have 100% perfect VGA support with NKPatcher v10-vga10.

NOTE: The softmod I use is also not a 'mainstream' one like NDURE, I actually customized this softmod to the way I like, all the way down to the UDE2 exploit.

Sorry, but it seems that my above link for my VGA cable is broken, so here's the picture for those who are interested:

Here's another addition to my gallery, a picture of what my 'ground plates' look like.

Basically, I hate shielding. A lot. But, when you remove the shielding you can cause some strange issues with audio and video due to lack of grounding (the XBOX uses the shielding as a ground), so what I did was I used a metal sheet cutter to perfectly cut the bottom of the shielding out, and then I cleaned up the edges so they weren't sharp, and by doing this I have the bulk of the shielding removed, and I still have what I like to call a 'ground plate' for the motherboard. happy.gif

Here's a picture of one of them: (All my XBOXes have these, and no shielding.)

NOTE: You might also notice the Coaxial SP/DIF connector mounted on the back panel too. (All of my XBOXes are equipped with one of these too.)

They are not xcm cases. I belive they are called "ghost" cases, or somthing like that. XCM cases are frosted.
