Halo 3 Beta invitation confirms Crackdown disc needed
Posted by XanTium | February 9 14:05 EST

From xbox360fanboy.com:
[QUOTE]
In short, you need to have the Crackdown game in your Xbox 360 to play the Halo 3 Beta. It does NOT show up in your "Demos and More" tab on the dashboard after downloading it through Crackdown. This coincides with the original press release, which stated you had to load the game to download the beta.

Let's just assume that ONLY the retail game will work. Please no discussion of using backups to circumvent the LIVE TOS and play the beta online, or as a means to "share" the beta. That is piracy.

I wonder how the beta will be downloaded for people who have been accepted into the beta through the Halo 3 website.

My guess:
Since you had to apply essentially through your gamertag/.NET passport, certain tags will be flagged as appropriate for downloading/playing the beta. Notice they stated over and over that it isn't transferrable. No doubt they have it worked-out on their end.

No, you don't need to buy Crackdown if you've already secured a beta through bungie, those will be distributed differently.

It might work at first but it says "Halo 3 Beta will be available for only a limited time" so if you get the game and download the beta before it is taken off the marketplace you could just keep the rented crackdown to play it the beta and crackdown.

i actually was skeptical about crackdown being any good...but after reading reviews and hearing that it really is a game that must be played to get the real feel..so i figured crackdown and halo 3 beta not to bad...so i preordered from eb games....

but the a couple of days later i got an email saying i was accepted to the halo 3 beta...so i figure if anyone is interested who wasn't able to preorder or invited....i'll gladly sell my copy to anyone interested i can do with just gameflying it...plus the developers still get the dough so that's a plus in my books....

as far as i know every preorder will have the invite but i'll find out for sure once i pick it up next week...so if you guys are interested feel free to pm me...if not i'll just hold on to it no biggie i just figure its a waste of a beta for someone who couldn't get it...

I had a funny feeling that it was still gonna be needed so I got my copy of Crackdown pre-ordered as well at the local GameCrazy. I couldn't get in with the "Rule of 3" phase so I'm glad i got a fully paid preorder ready for me. All of this just for the much anticipated Halo 3 beta! Arghhhh!!! I see it as a $60 Halo 3 beta with a free copy of Crackdown. LOL!
