Well my 360 has been flashed for a while now, but when I initially flashed it, I used 5.2A. However games would read EXTREMELY poorly. Very long boot times (30-60+ seconds to boot), disc read errors were very common, the drive would also get very loud like it normally does reading an XBOX 360 game for a couple of seconds, but then it would get very quiet again (as if it went from reading at full speed to 2-4x). It would also make clicking noises all the time. It got to the point when it wouldn't even load games about 2 out of 3 tries. Then after waiting a very long time for the game to boot, it would load very slow or freeze almost immediately.

I then tried using a firmware that would read the games at a slow speed (2-4x). The games boot fine, just like original 360 games, but load times are pretty slow, and Oblivion is almost unplayable (VERY LONG LOAD TIMES! And yes I have cleared my Cache via holding A button time on game boot up many times). Oblivion will also freeze commonly with the slow read. The disc is fine and has no scratches at all.

In any firmware, including those with mutli speeds (i.e boot originial to change speed), it reads for shit with fast, and fine with slow. I used a VIA 6421L PCI SATA card (I think that is the name, w/e it is, I bought the one recommended on this forum), all four variations of XTreme's 5.2 firmware. My games are all on Verbatim DVD+DL (all games burned at 2.4x speed), I backed up with a Tosh-Sam SH-D162C with Kreon v0.81. I have used XBC (latest version) to back up and burn AND Schtrom Xtract/IMGBurn for my back ups.

Does anyone know what the problem is with my 360? I have reflashed my drive countless times. And I have tried several different methods for burning games. All with no avail. I have also flashed my friends MS28 the exact same way as mine and all of my back ups work on his perfectly at fast speed (12x) on 5.2A, C, and D.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. If I forgot any information that would be useful please ask.

Your drive pot setting may be off a bit which is why its having a hard time reading them. You can either look into changing the value of the pot to make the laser stronger and see if that helps, or an easy solution would be to look into getting a different drive.

You dont want to be flashing your drive all the time, its not safe. Flash it here and there as you see fit.

Well how likely that is indeed the POT is off a little bit?

Do you know how why it will read originals just fine, but not backups if the POT is off? Also does anyone have an idea why the POT being off doesn't affect reading games at slow speed?

I don't believe I have a micrometer or a micro electronic screwdriver. How much would these cost?

Also if in the case as some one said earlier my drive is about to die. The likely hood of MS repairing it is slim to none correct? I did purchase the three year extended warrantly unfortunately =(. However at Maxconsole I read a few stories about people sending in modded 360s still under warranty (voided of course) and had them repaired for free as if they were never opened.

I would think that this would cause longer loading times, if it was cleared in fear of fragmentation then if it didnt work the first time there should be no reason for it to work the times after that

What blank media did you use? As an experienced PS2 backer-upper I know that the quality of the media was a big deal for in that case and since your 360 is reading orginals just fine, it seems that might be the case here too.

Boot with the backup in first, if it doesnt read fast then eject that one, place in original, let it boot, quit back to dash, eject, place in backup, load game. Try that, during this whole process leave the 360 on.
