TheSpecialist's HDDHackr v0.82B - Install your own Xbox360 HDD
Posted by XanTium | February 14 01:00 EST

TheSpecialist mailed us a new version of his HDDHackr (HDDHacker) tool that allows you to use a cheap 2.5" laptop Western Digital BEVS series HDD as Xbox360 HDD - more details here if you missed the first release.

What's new/fixed:
* Added option to flash the Western Digital back to its original state
* Much easier to use, no more manual copying of sectors
* Improved compatibility, should now really work with all BEVS models
* Bug fixed, that caused flashing of incorrect serial number in some rare cases.

True Dat. I mean I will only use this program once we are able to use it to flash at least 200 GB or something. It's still good work though.

Wow, this is some great stuff! You tha man Specialist! Now that these little bugs are fixed, it's time to order a spare replacement drive and make it internal! I love the fact that you can reflash it back to stock! Thanks!

Excellent work!! Is there anyway/anywhere I could get hold of a hddss.bin file without having to get my hands on an original HDD. Or is such a file undistrubutable due to copyright laws?

So with this you don't need the hdd adapter for the hd to work? Could I just borrow a friends hd, grab the .bin, flash and solder my own sata to the 360 hdd port?

You should be able to do that but there is no telling how Xbox Live would react if it sees two Xboxes online with the same unique hard drives (clones). If you don't connect your Xbox to the network it should be fine; maybe Microsoft won't care after all, but you should probably wait to see how they react to other people doing it first. If you just want a second hard drive for more space, this works out great because you can swap between your own two hard drives.

I have a quick question.. I backed up the 7 sectors to a bin file using hexworkshop and saved the bin file from my HDD and was waiting on my new HDD and I was wondering if I could still use the bin file I made with hexworkshop on this version? Thanks again. I cant wait for larger drives to come out!

Care to enlighten how you would use your game saves from this usb drive and how you will download Live Content to it?

Anyway my post was not meant to cut anyone down but I believe some dont understand what this hack allows. if you have a core system you cant just use a usb drive to act as the original MS Drive. Sure it is great for music and videos. What if you want to download the new maps for GOW or Rent a movie? Buy a second CHEAP HDD and make it the same as your original. now when you rent 4 movies on live in High Def you can swap between drives. or if you have a lot of Arcade games and the drive is full you can swap between them. of if you have a core system and want a good extremly cheap hard drive then poof you got it. I hope this helps all understand the potential of this.
