Hddhackr is supposed to work with all the WD 120gig BEVS so any should work. Read its read me first and you should be OK.

Good Luck.

So say I found or got an HDDSS.bin file then all I need is this program and the 120gb drive? Also what about the 2 different versions of the BEVS HD? How do I order one from newegg and know I'm getting the LAT that I need?

aight I'm new to the Xbox 360 hacking scene so please bare with me

i have a couple of things i wanna ask before i try making a 120 gig HDD

-Once i turn a western digital BEV series into a 360 compatible 120 gig HDD can i move data from a stock 20 gig back to my newly created one?

- will M$ ban me if they see two of the same ss.bin files online at the same time wink.gif ?

-can the WD BEV be flashed with the ss.bin via a usb-sata converter

-^if not, can i use the main sata port on my motherboard to flash the hdd e.g. the port my system disk is in

i hope someone can clear this up

thank for any help

1. Yes you can move data connecting first your stock 20 gig to your pc and use xplorer360 and then connect you modded one and move the data there.

2. No, M$ will not ban you from xbl. There is no issue for this.

3.a Yes you can use a usb to sata converter to flash your hdd, i have tested that.
3.b Yes you can also do this. You will not need your system disk when flashing.

I hope i helped you.

They haven't, not to say they won't.

Is the verification done in HDD firmware, or can the 360 read the security sectors itself? If so, especially seeing how the upcoming dash upgrade to allow caching full games to the HDD will probably encourage many people to perform this really affordable HDD upgrade, isn't this something to be worried about?

i've successfully installed a WD SCORPIO 1600BEVS using TheSpecialist's HDDHackr 0.91

since i'm long time banned from live (was caught in the first ban batch), no problems for me to use a hddss.bin downloaded from the internet.

anyway, i've never read anything about being banned from live for using an illegal hddss.bin. at least until now.

thanks for everybody, specially TheSpecialist for his amazing work on this tool.

Have I understood this correctly?

If I buy a WD BEVS 120GB drive and mod it for use instead of the old 20GB, I can use all of those 120GB, since there *are* 120GB XBOX 360 drives available? But if I mod a 80GB instead, I will only be able to use 20GB of those, since there are no 80GB drives available for the 360?

Or, will I only be able to use 20GB of a 120GB drive aswell?

Does the size in this sector 16 dictate the size of the drive, or does the 360 extract that information from the drive anyway?

I used this drive successfully. But it shows 107gb free after formatting in the 360.
The hddss.bin file was from a 120g drive so will be seen as a 120gig.

Many thanks to TheSpecialist.

im trying to backup the orginal drive so i can restore it after i flash the new one. I hooked it up and opened xplorer360. Then went to the drive menu>open>harddrive memcard.

then an error came up saying:

Invaild filename size: 168 in cluster 1, loop #0

and then

WARNING: file <bunch of weird letters and symbols here> has unknown flags b5.

and then xplorer360 crashes..

whats wrong?

then it asked me for an undo file i hit yes

then it said Fatal error, not enough room in FW f or bios string.

what do i do? please read above post too! thanks.

WARNING!!!!!
There seems to be a new problem with copy protected savegames and Xplorer360:

Two of my friends and I built three 120GB HDDs using WD 1200BEV HDDs. HDDHackr worked as intended and the 360 formatted them without any problems. We copied the contents of our old HDDs to the new one using a Datel XSATA (USB) and Xplorer360-xtreme2 and there were no errors.

BUT:
We noticed that the saved games of Viva Pinata, Forza Motorsport 2, Rock Band and all Live Arcade games were corrupt after the transfer on all of our 120GB HDDs and all the saves of all other games we tested were correct. The fact that the same 3 game's and all Arcade game's saves are broken cannot be a coincidence.

I think Viva Pinata and Forza 2 have locked saves which can not be copied to memory units. Maybe that is the reason for this. I think it's possible that MS found a way to stop copying locked saves by inofficial ways. Maybe it was part of the latest dashboard upgrade.

What do you think? Is there a way to copy the saves? I want to play Forza :-(

P.S.: A friend of mine tested copying the saves not by USB but direct SATA and has the same problem.

Nothing you can do about that really, since the games are signed to the HDD serial. There is a savegame resigner I think, but as far as I recall it is not public.
The dashboard update has nothing to do with it, btw.. it's a function of the game itself, mainly to prevent cheating by sharing unlocked saves.
It might work if you use an official MS transfer kit.
